Attention Smokers!!!!!

For all of our members that enjoy fine tobacco products.
The South Dakota legislature passed a bill extending a smoking ban to include all bars, restaurants, and gaming halls in the state.

That bill was signed into law by Governor Mike Rounds this morning.

Hotel Rooms and businesses that make a mjority of their income from tabacco products are exempt from this ban.

Businesses would include but are not limited to, Cigar lounges and smoke shops.

Come live in Mass. Law is already here. Trying to ban it even in one of the downtown areas outside on the street!!
I don't smoke but in a bar it is your choice to go in or not if you don't like it.
Talk of raising tax also here another 65 cents. My G/F already pays $7.25 a pack at the local store. We go to NH to buy at $4.99 a pack. Glad I never started.

We have a similar law here. I sure like going to bars now that they're smoke-free. You can still smoke in the Indian casinos because they aren't subject to the law.

Minnesota did the same thing. It sucks not being able to have a smoke with your beer at a bar! :( Now people complain about smokers standing outside the bars, where did they think they would have to be!!

We have had a similar law here for the last few years. To address the smokers by the door, they now cannot smoke within 20 feet (or something like that) of the entrance to any establishment.

How long before they just ban tobacco? Why beat around the bush when you can fill it up?

There was talk here recently that they wanted to bill you for your healthcare if it was a result of smoking. Strange how they don't mind all the revenue from the cigarette taxes.

Already passed in Washington. Everywhere except the Casinos on the reservations. Not being a smoker I have to admit I kind of like it. But, at the same time I always understood that if I go to bars and bowling alleys there might be smoke. Thank heavens for my saviors in Olympia. I'm hoping they will save from Big Macs next.

I can't remember the comedian's name but they said " I'm going to a bar to pour poison down my throat and attempt to have unprotected sex with a complete stranger, but could you put that out?"

It does seem a little off when they cry about the taxes that they lose when suddenly people quit smoking becuase of the ban.

Amazing sequence of events... I'm not smart enough to understand.

Pass tax increase on tabacco..... cool more money in the till to use.
Pass Ban on smoking..... why arent we getting the projected revenue we already promised to everyone when we passed the tax increase.

Personally I think that is why the country is so screwed up... not just tabacco taxing, but dont use gas... whoops tax income drops, dont use your AC...whoops, utility surcharges drop, dont drink coffee because its bad for you... whoops sales taxes gone again, dont eat meat save a whale but kill a baby... whooops farmers go out of buisness........

Free choice is gone and the whole lot of people in control base most of their decisions on the view they have from their little bubble they live and communicate to others in that bubble want....

"This is a smoking establishment" used to be a sign and if you didnt like smoke you have a choice that comes with having the ability to make decisions based on having a brain.
Now... no choice...... no brains needed, they think for everyone.

Wonder how many mom and pops bars, pool rooms and restuarants they have put out of business and lost that revenue too.

Also... like several have posted even in KC... you cant smoke anywhere "except" in casinos, here they are not indian owned... but they are exempt from the ban as well as the downtown special project called power and light.... seems like a stacked deck everywhere you look anymore.

Oh Well, guess the bright side is they havent declared an open season on smokers....yet.

It just doesn't really make a lot of sense to me why we ban some things and not others. I smoked for years and still do on occasion. I will NEVER give up a good cigar from time to time. But I see the point on secondhand smoke. Wasn't that the point of non-smoking sections. I know most bars have never had a non-smoking section but why not mandate better air handling and filtration on the establishment, why not make the product illegal. It all comes down to the secondhand smoke. It is NOT for the reason of a smokers health because tobacco causes cancer no matter what form it is in and so far as I have heard not one state has banned chewing tobacco.

I guess I don't mind the ban I just don't like being lied to about the reasons for it. I wish they would just come out and tell me "hey someone gave me a sh*t load of money to alter your personal freedoms because they didn't like it"

That I could live with.

Sorry for the rant. My purpose for this thread was to let everyone know in case they are coming to Custer so that they won't be shocked. the law doesn't take effect until July 1 but a lot of establishments tend to implement early.

Illinois is smoke free. I must that going to bars/restaurants in Wisconsin that allow smoking sure makes you appreciate the bars/restaurants in Illinois that banned it.

I use to be a heavy smoker and that was my vise !

Almost seven years ago I stopped cold turkey and never looked back.
