Anyone reworked your stock seat ??

I remember threads where folks had sent their seats off to various places to be reworked......I am thinking of experimenting a little with an extra one I am buying.

Anyone tried anything or have any ideas that might help me along in this experiment?? (Radco has sent me some good ideas already )

I really don't have much problem with the stock until I start getting over about 350 miles in a day then I seem to wanna stand up every 100 miles or so. I have been thinking about that ride to Custer and thought I might do some experimenting to see what might be done to improve the long day rides.

Todd, I sent my passenger seat to Mean City Cycles. Should be back Monday. I spent $115 + shipping for the Wide Double Decker mod. If my wife likes it I'll more than likely get the same done to my seat. It really doesn't look very difficult to do yourself if you can get seat size sections of memory foam. The Double Decker mod consists of a layer of 10# and another layer of 5# memory foams.

I had a local auto upholsterer redo mine. The local Hardley dealer actually recomended this guy to me. He recut the factory hard foam, put in memory foam, and recovered it with new vinyl. It now resembles a 1600 Classic seat, and I'd be willing to put it against the Mustang for comfort, but that's just my opinion. It made a world of difference on my butt. I wish I'd been able to get an extra seat like you got(sweet price BTW), to have experimented with. I recommend doing it, for your butts sake. ::) You will be glad you did. ;) Check with your local Hardley dealer, ask who they recommend, as Hardleys also have uncomfortable seats on some of their models, so Nomads are not alone in a class by themselves in the seat catagory.

I bought a stock seat on ebay. Tried to rework it myself, I mean how hard can it be :-/
Bought an electric carving knife and some memory foam and went at it. Four times
Just could not get it like I wanted. Couldn't see paying an upholster to do it.
Put the stock back on for now. It is good for 250 to 300 miles before I get monkey butt.

I have a Piper modified seat, its Ok and Ive done some 500 plus mile days but Im sore by then. I don't think its as good as a Mustang seat, but it was a lot cheaper.

the stock seat is not.. . Then i made a new cover of
moose leather..I´m satisfied whith the result..

I sent mine to Spencer's in FL. he cut it down and put memory foam in both seats for around $100.00 + shipping it is OK but a Mustang is better and a lot more expensive.

I'll be waiting to see how you like it....that may be easier for me and about the same cost once I buy the memory foam and spend the time.....I can drive to them in a little over an hour.

Todd, I figured you weren't very far away from them. Check out their website if you haven't already. Brent, Allen, and Steve are really great people to deal with. The FedEx tracking says the seat will arrive over here on Tuesday. I'll let you know how she likes the seat real quick.

Anyone reworked your stock seat ??

Todd, I got a Classic Mustang seat by accident for a good price (thought it was a Nomad).

This summer I'll take it's foam out and put just the foam in my seat, should be as good as a mustang seat I would suppose.

Sometime I'd like to take the stock foam and go to an old tractor or similar that had that metal seat that all old pieces of equipment used. It seems that if in the old days equipment operators sat on a piece of metal (they all have that same shape) that somebody must have come up with the right shape. I'd like to take a piece of foam and get that same shape and try it. Might be just the thing.

The Harley Cross Bones seat looks pretty similar. If the Cross Bones is just the ticket (spring loaded too) too bad we don't have the same.

Dan, isn't the Classic and the Nomad seat interchangable, or did I missunderstand your post again :-/

I really like the looks of the crossbones except for the spoke wheels.
