Gains vs. price of aftermarket air intake?

I have a Thunder Mfg. "Tornado" intake left over from my Suzuki Blvd C50T. All I would need is the proper adapter for the Nomad and can reuse the rest.

My question is this: Is it worth it? Would I see that much more gain from the Thunder kit vs. the stock intake unit? I have the PCIII and V&H duallie pipes already installed. And there is a local shop that is PCIII dyno certified to custom map it. Just wondering if it's worth it ($100 adapter + $250 custom map)???

Opinions, real life experiences, ????

Thanks,
Daryl

Reports have shown a rather substantial gain in both HP and Torque. 10 HP and 12 lbft in Torque.

I have not done this mod and the intake noise to me is too droning a noise to listen to. Whether it's worth the $250 custom map is debateable. You could download from their website for free after providing the information about the mods of your bike and go from there.

Don't be surprised as a substantial loss in MPG that most report doing this mod.

I agree with Doc Go For It!!! My only question is why you already have the PCIII installed if your NOT going to add a Thunder Kit?

Gains vs. price of aftermarket air intake?

I did mine all at once (PC111, V&H Baggers, Thunder stealth air kit per Gadget). I noticed an increase in performance, but a decrease in fuel mileage(I like hearing the pipes). The way I understand it, it's the airkit that makes all the difference, the rest only make negligable difference.
So, I'm sure BD is right.........................again! LOL

Gains vs. price of aftermarket air intake?

I hate to be the 'fly in the oinment" but here goes my question from the other side.
After doing all these mods to your bike, all the additional monies, the decrease in mpg, all the noise the bike is going to make......is it really worth it? If you're into going as fast as you can in a quarter mile then by all means go for it. I would.
My last bike had V&H pipes and a jet kit. I "think" it made a difference in performance but not much. The noise however drove my wife and myself crazy over any long distance....1/2 hr or more. My mpg dropped from about 45mpg to 32mpg. Since we are more into the enjoyment of traveling longer distances I don't know that having all the mods is worth it. Less fuel mileage alot more noise. I bought my Nomad because it carries a huge load, does it comfortably/quietly and allows us to talk while riding off into the sunset!! I'm sure not saying anyone is wrong for making the changes just think about it hard before doing all that work and spending the additional money. That's all.

It's only worth the money you spend, if you have the extra money to spend on it and it's what you want on your bike.....

I know that sounds simple...but that's really what it boils down to. The only thing I really wanted was more sound, so I modified the exhaust system.....one day I want to get more power just because I know I can, so I will probably open up the intake and modify the fuel processor with a PCIII or similar........I really think the bike has more than adequate power the way it is, so I will need to have some cash laying around that I have nothing else to spend (er...waste) it on. With two teenagers, who knows when that will be ;) ;)
