finally done dialing in the motor
dial in complete, cobra slashdowns, 2000r pots at 3-4-1, hyperhcarger, 87 octane no ping, rotella t 5w-40 synthetic, and coasters. great sound at all speeds, throttle responce out of this world, lots more low and midrange torque, more top end power. smoother clutch and shifting, what more can i say. i just created the perfect v-twin. lol. ran a tank of 87 octane through it this morning 40 degrees some head wind, back roads and super slab about half of each, and got 39.5 mpg. that with vinyl lowers on the crash bars. they really kill mileage in the wind. i'm totally satisfied. this will definately take the new favorite bike for me spot. i hated to come home, to the honey do's. wife says all you do is work on them damn bikes. i said thats our job. it's a dirty one, but somebodies got to do it. i guess i better work around the house today. what a drag duh. now she tells me we have to go to home depot and get a new mail box. i figure the mail man needs the exercise getting out of the truck and putting it in the one on the ground. go figure.

In fact you just might find the crash bar covers get you a little more MPG's. I do....
Get some full syn in the rear gear box too... Every little bit helps

I am really looking forward to doing the same mods as Snarley Bill.
Mac what syn are you running in the rear gear box? I now have Bel Ray Hypoid 80W 80 in the drive. What is recommended? I am going to switch to Rotella 5W-40 synthetic and Pure One filter. Plan to make engine oil and drive oil changes as part of winterizing and the way the weather is this is looking like next Saturday. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Mr. Hibbs: be wary of the Pure One yellow filter, I have used 2 lately. With their rough finish they will eat away your rear brake line untill it pops if you let it. Im changing to another filter next change.

Doc, thanks for your comments. Purolator stopped selling filters in Canada so I went across the border at Buffalo and picked up 7 of these filters at Pep Boys (all they had on the shelf). Was planning to drop the oil soon as the riding season is quickly coming to an end here but leave the OEM filter in place over the winter and then drop the oil again in the spring and install the Purlolator filter at that time. Do you know if there is enough room to use plastic split wire loom to cover the brake line to prevent damage to it??

Me? I run Mobil 1 full syn gear oil in 85w-90, and change it anytime I change engine oil. I now rin Mobil 1 full syn in the engine as old silver cap for cars, but don't anymore..... It changed to the dreaded "EC" blend. I have new opil and filter waiting for my winta' storage plan as Mobil 1 V-Twin as 10w-40.

Bill, you sound like my type of guy. I have a flooring project that I have bought the plywood for and the tiles to put down. I have had it for a few months. I guess on a cold rainy day I will get started.
Mr Hibbs, if you have the filter off you should be able to get that mess on the brake line. Also might consider using electrical tape to wrap around the line. Clean the grime off and wrap a few times around and that should keep the filter from harming the line. I use the Bosch 3300 filter which is the same size as the OEM filter and have no problem with the line and filter.

Hey AlabamaNomadrider
I did intall the Pure One filter and was able to install a piece of split plastic wire loom over the brake line and zip tied it out of the way. Filter not touching the brake line at all now. :) |
