Thanks y'all!! So far, it's been pretty mild here in Richmond. We're a little less than 100 miles inland, so I'm hoping we're far enough away we'll be fine. We've prepared as much as we can... I'll post more tomorrow as long as we've got power!!

I have to include La. and all the Gulf Coast in this one. I know somehow this will affect you and yours but I hope you are all safe.

The southern half of Terrebonne Parish really got hammered with storm surge from Ike. Parish officials are estimating that well over 10,000 homes have been inundated with anywhere from a few inches to 10 feet of water. I and several others were at our plant today building river sand levees in an attempt to hold back the surge. We lost the fight at 9 pm when one of our levees breached. We evacuated the plant shortly before 10 pm after shutting down the steam system and killing all electricity in the switchgear buildings. I'm certain that we will have over 1 foot of water in the control room and all office buildings. All of this and we didn't have a big rain event with Ike. I can't imagine what it would have been like had we had 6" of rain. I'm sure that it is worse in Galveston and Houston. Take care all...

JD lost a few shingle and messed up a few trees. Neighbors carport poked a hole in the roof of JDs truck... he said he was looking for duct tape. He helped a neighbor cut up trees and another neighbor BBQd and fed them so he aint gonna waste away....unless he runs out of coffe! Electricity is off but water is OK. Guy who work for the waterwork and a pumpstation both on the block. Generators running the pumps.

terrebonne, glad ya made it through the storm. Sounds like it could have been a lot worse for you.
Skeeter, same to you and thanks for the report. Glad to hear JD is all good. I know how he feels about coffee.

Thanks for the well wishes!!! They payed off big time!!

Posted in another thread already...but we made it out ok. Just got power last night...so we're returning to normal. I know places a little south of me will take a while to get cleaned up.

Once they tell us we can get into Galveston, I'll go and check our house there. From reports that have made it back to us, the house fared REALLY GOOD!!! Just water up to the bottom of the floor boards downstairs. So...if that's the only damage we had there, we're LUCKY!!!!

Will update when I know more.

That's good to hear. There are some articles online that show the clean up efforts going slow.

Glad you're ok!

The photos on the news here were pretty grim. It looked like half of Houston was scattered in splinters along the freeway.
