Strangest Festival Names for Bikers

What is the STRANGEST FESTIVAL NAME OR THEME in your area?

Near my area in Byron, Illinois is the "TURKEY TESTICLE FESTIVAL".

That's right; I didn't mis-spell it! They fry these things up by the barrel-full and eat them. (I have not personally ever had any -- likely won't either. They say they are good; but of course that is what they would say!)

This 28 year-old event is on October 13th and hosted by a local bar/restaurant in Byron. The event draws several thousand bikers from the area and basically closes-down this small town.

So; that is my "shot" at the strangest festival name and theme in my area. Who has another? Can't wait to here what you have.

I am a member of our local masonic lodge here, and we also used to have a turkey testical festival every fall after thanksgiving. It was a fundraiser for the lodge. We would have a dance usually hosted by a local Elvis impersonator, and a scotch and wine sampling bar. We would deep fry them in a light batter and coat them with a cajun spice. Thay are good, two bowl fulls on that evening would usually hold me over until the next year. The event died out here about 4-5 years ago, mainly due to members not bothering to organise the event.

Around here (SD), we call it a Rocky Mountain Oyster festival. Only instead of turkeys we use Bull Nuts. I suppose they would have to be a bull's nuts wouldn't they, a cow's nuts would be a little hard to come by. Ha Ha.

But seriously, we boil them clean, peel them, slice them, roll em in Ritz and fry em.

I've had the Rocky Mountain species. They are actually quite tasty. Never had the Turkey variety, but I'd be willin to try. As far as biker events, I try to miss as many as I can. I always considered myself an enthusiast as opposed to being a biker.

I have actually had Rocky Mountain Oysters. My father was a farmer and we had them every year. When prepared correctly they are the best fried-tenderloin sandwich you'll ever have.

A butcher-friend of mine said that there was a time that tenderloin sandwiches were occasionally made from bull-testicles.

He claims if you are over 50 and have eaten tenderloin sandwiches in a restaurant or a public event -- you have eaten Rocky Mountain Oysters weather you knew or not. He said "back in the day" since bull-testicles could be processed into a quality, higher-priced meat product -- meat processers would make them into tenderloins. He said the "gov" was fine with it and would allow it. He said that tenderloins are now rarely made from them any more. (Now... all I am doing is repeating what he told me.)

One more thing...

I really thought when I started this thread that the "Southerner's" in this group be able to "out-do" my festival name and theme.

Maybe I was wrong.

We have one called the Nut & Gut. It not really that big several local farmers throw a party at a hunting club house. It's bring your own bottle but they supply the food. lol it is pretty good to.

It's all you can eat, Mountain Oysters and Chitins. I have no problem with the Oysters they really are good. Grew up on a farm and they were a special treat for supper. But I hate being around chitins until they are thru cooking. It's the smell :-[. But once there cooking man they are good as long as they are fried.

"Food safety caution

Care must be taken when preparing chitterlings, due to the possibility of disease being spread when they have not been cleaned or cooked properly. These diseases/bacteria include E. Coli and Yersinia enterocolitica, as well as Salmonella. Chitterlings must be soaked and rinsed thoroughly in several different cycles of cool water, and repeatedly picked clean by hand, removing extra fat and specks of fecal matter because the part of the pig the 'chitlins' come from includes intestinal polyps and the last few inches before the pig's rectum. The chitterlings are then boiled and simmered until tender."

They may taste good...but I can live without them!

I ck'd out the site and found two "Road-Kill Cookoffs".

Had trouble bringing up the info; however the "theme" may be a winner thus far in the contest!! :-/

Suppose they actually eat the stuff?
