Isn't that what the goat belly is all about?

The complete instructions for modifying it are on Gadget's site. Remember that you're destroying a $400 part though. You may never need it again, but if you do...?

You can also buy a bypass tube assembly that replaces it entirely, but it's not cheap. In fact they were over $300 when I checked 5 years ago.

I decided that a custom system was a good deal for the $425 I spent, particularly since it meant that my stock system would be preserved, should I ever need it.

Ooooh! I just checked and that converter is over $600 now. Are you sure you want to cut it up?

good point!! i think i'll leave it alone and try another route. what is gained? not sure really. i just figured that it hindered performance and exhaust flow. i am by far an expert and thought i would ask before chopping something up i may live to regret. thanks for the advice guys.

Not much unless you also mod the intake and fuel delivery. Then you can gain about 10 HP. On a bike that only makes 54 HP from the factory, that extra 10 HP is a big deal, BTW.

that is what i was hoping to get...i was going to put a k&n filter on it and eventually an aftermarket exhaust. i just figured that the converter would kill any gains i got with the k&n.

I bought an extra set of a stock exhaust system, including the converter from a private party. Then I cut out the silencers, punched through both baffles, and gutted the goat, which cost me a $100. I did it for the sound. I have previously done the resister mod, and with the gutting I beleive I got a horse or two out of it. I used a 1K OHM resistor. As Cadd said, you have to change your fuel/air mix together with a mod to the exhaust to get any performance enhancements. You can learn all about these mods over at BD's Garage....
