Brake Question
I have a problem with my front brakes. I changed the pads and now I get a sound like a cicada makes. The sound is not there until I use the brakes, and the sound is greater the more I apply the brake. I did not have the problem before I changed the pads, and my rotors are in good shape. I do not believe it is the pads, but one of the seals on one of the pistons. I have no mechanical aptitude, I base my theory on looking at a picture of the brakes on Ron Ayers site. Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing the sound and what a solution might be?

Brake Question
Some others have been talking about this on other threads, and it could be the brand of brake pads you used. I might be wrong, but I believe the EBC pads are known for this chirping sound, while OEM pads are not. I am sure some of those with more KNowledge will be chiming in on this.

Brake Question
I use EBC (both the black & the gold ones) and haven't had any unusual noises. Just the usual noises, same as all disk brakes.

Brake Question
I use the EBC HH pads, and only occassionally git a single chirp or two when I first start appling the brakes, then as it engages, the chirp will stop.
One question, when you changed your pads, did you take some fine sandpaper or emory cloth and rough up the rotor discs to get the "glaze" off them? In the past, this has caused some to "chirp".

Brake Question
It is not a dust boot on a caliper piston causing any sound. There are brake pad specific coatings that dull vibrations, which causes chirping.
The advice to sand the rotor faces is very valid. Probably these pads are just slightly wider than OEM, and so contact a place not worn. This might be visable on the pads now.

Brake Question
I have had the brake pads on for about 5,000 miles. In all that time the brakes have always chirped. I will try sanding the rotors again, and I will take the pads off and see if there are any groves in them. Thanks for the advice.
