Getting there fairing mods

Making progress. I have the gauge set from a 1700 Vaquero fitted into the 1978 Pacifico Shadow fairing I'm modifying to install on my 1600 Classic. Through Accutach in California I got Mark Olson to develop a tach controller that uses the output from the crank sensor to signal the tach (which has been isolated from the circuit board). I have to do more mods to size the inside of the fairing to fit around the fuel tank, allow for the fork legs to swing inside the fairing, and make mounts to the steering head of the frame. I mounted a similar fairing to my buddy's VN900, so I know it can be done.

The pic shows the gauge set installed into the face panel I fabbed from 3/16" ABS sheet stock. Disregard all the silver Sharpie marks all over the panel, those will clean off with some Goof-off. I've since fabbed the cover panel to go over the top crest form of the gauge panel. The face panel below the gauge set will house a stereo system and possibly a Garmin Nuvi GPS. The amp for the stereo will mount behind the gauge set. I'll also mount two Tweeters in the gauge panel, the larger speakers will install into the fairing. The windshield will be a cut down version to get that Vaquero vibe going.

If you run the Sharpie over the old marks, they get wet and wipe right off.

Yeah, patience is key, and working from an established centerline to make sure it looks right to each side. It takes a lot of fit/refit, look at it, consider what is needed to assemble it, disassemble it, service access, even plan for vibration. It takes a lot to produce a one-off custom assembly.

Jimmie, I have the 2nd tach controller from Accutach and it works fine getting a signal from the crank sensor. Also works from the coil input signal, but its a "dirty" signal that causes some needle over-sweep.

The photo was one I loaded to my laptop from my Galaxy S9. Then I used a photo editor to compress the image so it would load to these pages.
