Antifreeze additive

Has anyone ever used Motor Max additive in their antifreeze?

I think it's garbage. I looked up the "About" section and saw a 6 year old claim that it works and not be the two top gentlmen but the 3rd who is not an editor of any motor journal.

There are lots of antifreeze "boosters" on the market that claim to fortify your old antifreeze and make your engine run cooler, and preserve the seals and water pump bearings. They probably do a little.

What they don't do is get the dirt and deposits out of the system. For that you need to flush the system. Flushing is more important than how stong your antifreeze is, unless you live in Alaska or something even week antifreeze won't freeze.

But crap in the system needs to be flushed out regularly or it wrecks things. Expensive things like radiators and waterpumps. There's no shortcut for that.

I use Prestone Super Flush. You can get it almost any auto parts place, K-Mart, etc.

I use that, then flush well with hose water, then once with distilled water, then add the coolant. If your local water is really crappy, I'd forget the hose & just flush a couple gals of distilled water through it to remove the Super Flush.

By crappy Cadd means loaded with minerals or metals.. I have no idea how you hose distilled water anywhere.. Run that distilled water a few days and dump it. If getting the tank off/out of the way is easy, which it is to me.

Silly! Distilled water doesn't come from a hose unless you run your own still.

Here we have a lot of calcium in our water. I have a water softener that removes most of it, but I wouldn't put that water in a battery or a cooling system because it still can have heavy ions in it.

I have a reverse osmosis system with pre-filters, and that water is nearly as pure as distilled. I've used R.O. purified water in batteries and cooling sysrems on occassion. Unfortunately my system only can make about 2 gallons every 24 hours, so it's easier just to drop a couple bucks for distilled water.
