Avon Tires
Hi guys + gals. I know the tire issue gets TIREsome but I can't stand the noise in the corners from the stock stones (just like most of you). Probably a knee jerk reaction but I think I care more about quiet + handling than I do treadlife....so I was thinking about getting the Avon Venom X for front + rear....anyone running those? What kind of miles did you get (or have now). Did you notice a BIG difference in noise/handling? I see the Avon's are cheaper (20%)...maybe that justifies the treadlife a little. I just want a big improvement. Anyone with E3's or Metz feel free to chime in about improvement in noise/handling because my decision is not cast in stone yet as my bike only has 3500k on it....but it is an 03. Any reason I should change the size of tire from the stock 150-80-16's?
Thanks!

Got Avon's front and rear. Put rear on after 10,000 Km when the stock Stones died a horrible death. Now got 20,000 Km on the bike front Stone cupped so put the Front Avon on. Back after 10,000 Km looks hardly worn! And that is with pulling a trailer! Handles way better than the Stones. Don't notice any noise from either tire. Doesn't squirm when you go over irregularities in the pavement now like it did with the Stones! Rain seems okay. I was a Metzler guy for many many years and these are my first Avon's - so far I think they are a good tire. Don't sing in the corners like other Mets did, kinda miss it.

favorably on the Avon wear. I may give the rear tire a shot as I would like to stay with a m/c tire if I could just get some decent mileage. I definitely won't buy anymore radial m/c tires due to excessive wear. But the more I read about car tires the more I'm tempted to go that route. $300 every 6,500mi for the 880 radial rear is more than I care to spend. ![]() |

I put the Metz on my bike. They sing like hell in the turns. I don't think the next set will be Metz. Was thinking maybe Elite 3's.
I used to run Continental back in the day but don't know how they are now.

Old Dawg. I have 2003 1500. 150-80-16 on front and back. Thanks for the input everyone. sounds like the Avons are quiet and still get acceptable wear...I will give them a shot...what the heck...I ride the Rolls Royce of bikes...why not use Rolls Royce tires too!

Yeah Nico, I was running 40/40 and the front growled in the turns. I went to 38/40 and it still growls in the tighter turns. Scared the hell out of me the first time. Thought there was something wrong with the bearings or the axle was comong out
