Heads up on a bad Retailer

Normally I don't go to such lengths to complain about a Retailer and purchases from them , but in this age of Ebay, internet shopping and international shipping, I felt that I should at least pass along my experience and let the rest of you decide for yourself.

I purchased some highways pegs from Al's Cycle Parts out of New York ( Ebay purchase ) www.Alscycleparts.co
They looked OK when I got them, expect the package was ripped open and gone through but I did an inventory and all parts where there. I installed one side OK, but the other side I could not tighten enough on the bar because the quality was not the same on all the clamps, I decided to remove the other side and swap clamps around to get a set that would tighten on both sides, but when I went to loosen the first side, unknown to me, the threads had piled up during tightening because of the poor grade of bolt, and snapped off when I tried to loosen.

I phoned Al's Cycle Parts and explained the situation and all I got was Company Policy rhetoric , I would have to ship the parts back at my cost and they would evaluate the parts. I explained that my cost to ship the parts back was working it's way up to over half the original purchase price, so why not just ship me new ones or credit my account back the purchase price? They said NO. When I explained that the bad PR they would receive from me, was it worth $ 40.00? Still no change in policy. I said OK, see ya later and lesson learned on my part I guess. I don't need to get kicked twice by the horse to remember how much it hurt the first time.

Lesson: buy quality the first time and don't think you're getting a deal by buying knock off stuff. I will buy the proper clamps ( those half shell grips that Cad showed the other day and a lot of you use, plus, buy top notch pegs ) Will end up costing around $ 150.00 I'm sure but in the long run you get your monies worth.

Thanks, that's the end of my rant

Thanks for telling your experience. Internet retailers need to realize that same internet can used to hurt sales. I bought kury pegs from my dealer, and yep they were $150. But they were top quality and I got the right ones. That said, I am very conscious about weighing price with quality, thats why I bought a Nomad.

Next time, buy Kuryakyn pegs and mounts and you won't have these issues. You have to realize that in the modern age of online retailing, anybody can become a "business", whether they have any business sense or not. Al's cycle parts could be some dude working out of his mother's cellar. Sorry for your bad experience, but thanks for the heads up to others. By the same token, if you have a positive experience with a vendor, post those as well.

Sad but true! However even the Brand Name parts are starting to suck the big one in Quality! I understand if you don't pay top dollar for something you can expect it to not be a top dollar piece but when you pay top dollar and it's the same quality as a bottom dollar piece you tend to get abit chocked up! Just my 2 cents! No returns, no credit!

The "good" vendors realize that motorcycle enthusiasts associate with like minded people and the word can spread quickly - good or bad.

Could you possibly tap out the clamp to a larger bolt size, or use a longer bolt with a nut on it?

I will take some pics today, but it's a right off. I might have been able to swap clamps around and find a combination that worked, but when the cinch bolt busted off in the yolk that holds the pedal it was all over. I even oiled the threads prior to assembly, but the grade of metal was too low for the application. My opinion is when you require a fastener to have to clamp down the work to make it function, then the grade must be at least 8 or higher otherwise the stretch is too severe and thread damage or metal damage is the result.

His ebay rating is 99.8%...maybe you could call back and talk to someone else? Definately should post your unhappiness about it on ebay if you haven't already!
