Something missing

There is something missing on the interstate highways in Idaho this summer that used to be so plentiful that they were the major portion of the traffic stream. Campers, RV's, mobile homes. The difference is dramatic this year. On trips across the state now I only see half a dozen. Years past there would be a half a dozen per mile. $4 a gallon gas has definitely changed the way people recreate.

On the plus side when it's not raining there are a LOT more motorcycles.

Went to the Honda dealership saturday (they were giving away a VTX 1300 - no we did not win it); anyway they had 5 scooters there along with their line up of bikes. Went back Mon - hubbie has been vest shopping and decided like the one he saw there best so we went back for it. They sold 4 of the scooters sat - only had one left!

My neighbor just got home from a trip to Boise, 240 miles on the interstate. He too noted the lack of campers. Only counted six from Utah. Gas prices are altering lifestyles for sure.

A plus side to the gas prices is that maybe traffic jams will become obsolete. Wouldn't that be different on a long weekend.

Also have noticed that the trucks have slowed significantly on the interstates. What a joy it is not to have them blowing by you.

Waterman-
Yes, I've definitely noticed the trucks traveling slower. We were gone this weekend, and I can't remember any trucks blowing by us. It's a very nice change, but I wish it wouldn't have taken higher gas prices to cause it.

Hey, Idaho. Been noticing fewer motor homes ( practically none ). Traffic is much lighter these days. Seeing quite a few bikes now, even more scooters on the AM and PM commute. They're predicting $4.50 per gallon by July 4. May start to see more people on foot .

The local Kaw/Yam/Suz/Honda superstore general manager was telling me he spends afternoons now calling dealers nationwide trying to buy scooters. Can't keep em in stock.I suppose they will be skyrocketing in price as well.

I'm seeing more and more scooters here too!! Like a bunch of little ants running around!! I don't blame people for trying "alternative transportation" but riding a scooter around on some of these highways and roads is like playing Russian roulette!!! It's bad enough of a big bike...much less a little scooter who's top speed is 45-50mph...hell even 60mph around here will get ya run over!!!

On the way home Friday this young lady pulls in behind me at a light on a little scooter. I asked her how good her mpg was and she told me 125/gal. f**k me! I was tempted to go get one of those little critters!

On the news this morning they said it's predicted that road travel will be down 60% this summer. There are going to be some hurting industries out there.

I'm selfishly hoping we won't see a single gas-guzzling motorhome creeping through Zion N.P. next week.

CQ we probably won't see many.

I'm starting to wonder if we should organize a national strike for a couple of days to get the attention of our airhead politians. I don't know what freakin planet these bozos live on but they sure as hell don't understand what $4/gallon does to the economy.

Sometimes , to get the mule's attention, you need to hit him between the eyes with a board.
