Just put down a deposit...

After searching for a few months, I finally found a Nomad on Craigslist. A 2007 Red/Silver(*) with under 3,000 miles for $10,000. I looked it over today and she looks to be in great shape. (the owner has several bikes already, and found that he preferred his wife's lower power cruiser). He has to pay off his loan tomorrow to get the title, then I pay the balance and it's MINE!

(*) whether this is the fastest color or not is irrelevant to me, I tend to stick near the limit anyway.

I'm sure I'll be asking a ton of questions in the next few weeks, and digging through the archives as well.

Right now I'm just trying to decide what add-ons to get. When I got on the Nomad to try it out this morning, I left boot marks on the bag. Maybe I'll need the bag racks or chaps to prevent that. I'm thinking of getting a luggage rack. Since I'd like to put a trunk on in a year or two, I might as well just start with something like a Wampus. (Can it still be used as a regular luggage rack? Looks like it's all one metal piece). And I definitely need to figure out how to hook up my GPS (Garmin 2730). I had it on my Concours, but there was a convenient unused bolt hole I used. And I need to get a good cover before bringing her home. (no garage... :'() I guess my productivity is about to sink for a while. ::)

Since I saved about $2-3,000 by getting a slightly used, I have a little bit of money to spend.

To prevent kicking your bags and leaving boot marks on them don't swing your leg over the top of the bike. Try this mounting technique: Face the broad side of the bike and lift your leg in a fashion similar to kicking in a door and step over the seat. I prefer the right side because the bars are out of the way and if you can clear the seat its all down hill from there. Hope that helps prevent any further injuries to the bags. Now you just got to get your passenger to cooperate.

Congratulations, I bought the same year and color a little over a month ago for $11,599 + tax, title, and license which brought it to $12,915. Only difference is mine was still unassembled in the crate. With just 3K miles in great shape, you did really well. Just the fact that the guy has several bikes even sounds better. I just purchased a LG/XLG cover on E-bay that is water and UV proof for $27.99 plus shipping. She sleeps in the garage but I had to get a cover to keep my 2 year old grandson from climbing all over the bags and tank. He loves to ride on the slow streets around the house with me. Looks great with his flaming bicycle helmet and leather jacket. You will love your Nomad. Ride safely.

I don't have a garage either - I bought a Dowco Guardian w/ the zipper. They also make one with a built in alarm. I have found it to be very weather resistant. You'll have to replace it about every 2 years to maintain waterproof capabilities. Best price I found was at Chapparal - they had a special on them (might be still on) Look in the ads in Cruiser, Road Bike Mag etc for deals. Make sure you get one that is big enough!

Hope you enjoy you new ride - I know I do!!!

Since your 07 is still under the two year warranty, that can be transferred to you. In doing so, you will receive a letter from Kawasaki with a new warranty card and price quotes for extended warranties. These same official warranties can be purchased at about half the price from Kawasaki dealers on eBay, specifically Fremont Motorsports in Florence, Colorado. To see their ad, go into eBay and enter "380025131564". Many forum members have dealt with them, some directly by calling them at (719)784-9633. I got a four-year extended warranty for $355 and a letter from Kawasaki thanking me for purchasing it along with a new warranty ID card going out to 2012. You will see many comments from people who want nothing to do with extended warranties. But this one amounts to 24 cents a day and who knows what labor rates will be in the next 3-4 years. You can do this any time before your original warranty expires so there is no hurry.

You can check the status of your current warranty by going into the Kawa home page and under "Owners Info" and "Recall Notices", enter your VIN number. It will give you expiration dates.

Thanks, I've used Dowco before, and they have been pretty good. I'll look to see if they are still on sale.

I'm considering this. With my last bike (Kawasaki Concours) I got an extension. The problem was that when I did have an issue come up, it was about 1 month after the (extended) warranty expired. The dealer said if it was after the regular warranty, Kawasaki might fudge and cover it, but after the extended, they never gave any fudge factor on it.

Thanks for the comments so far!

First, congrads on the new Nad, and about the wompus rack, you have to remove those beautiful grab rails and backrest (sorry). The wompus mounts were your grab rails are now, but if you get a trunk, you will need a substancial rack (like the wompus) to mount it on.

P.S. Your going to love your new scoot!!!!!!!!
