Darkside question

First off I have an 07 Nomad.
I've already made up my mind to go to the darkside...

I really would like to put a Michelin tire on.

My question is tire size. From what I have found I should probably run a 195/60/16

Michelin doesn't make a 195 but does make a 205/65/16

I don't want to buy a tire then not be able to get it to fit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

On your 1600 you will be able fit a bigger tire than the 1500's can.You have more space on the 1600 swingarm.

On my 1600, I'm on my second 205/60-16. I prefer the uni-directional tread pattern, and my first DarkSide tire was the old style Goodyear TripleTred. It was an awesome tire, but due to age (6 years old) and a nail in it (had 39,717 miles on it ) I wanted to replace it. The new GYTT ain't what they used to be, so I got a Yokohama Avid Envigor, and I like this tire better than the GYTT. Although both tires are the same size, The Yokohama is 1/16" wider on the over-all width, which cut the swing arm clearance down from .090" to .030", But the tread width of the Yokohama is 1 1/4" more narrow than the GYTT, which makes it act more like a MC tire.

My next rear tire, I will be looking for a 195/75-16.

If the Michelin you choose has round edges on their tread pattern it should fit. Post pics when you finish.

I wanted to go darkside when I had my 1500 classic and a friend of mine wanted to as well only he was riding a honda. We couldnt find a single place that would do it for us lol...

Do you guys change them yourself? If so what tools do you use.

Since then the same friend now owns my 1500 and i ride a Vaquero, anyone went darkside on a Vaquero yet?

I mounted mine myself & used dynabeads to balance. There's a ton of videos on mounting motorcycle tires by hand on Youtube. All you really need is 2-3 cheap tire tools. Watch a few vids, it's really not hard!

I have a 2008 Nomad I'm on my 2nd car tire I use a 195-60-16 works great.

My advice would be to use a size that is common and what most other people use. Check out the various Dark side forums to see what size is the most used. Stay with something that is tried and true.

205/60/16 will fit on a vaquero. Just have to move the belt guard over a bit.

yes been running a 205 60 16 by douglas, sold by walmart has a round corner and rides great, and only cost around 65.00. I change them myself, the hardest thing to do is break the bead,

I take mine to a local independent tire shop got the tire from him and he mounted it for free. took 5min I use dina beads so no problem with balancing either

Pretty much any indy will change the tire if you bring them the wheel/tire. A lot of dealers will do the same although some places want to add something to the bill stating they aren't responsible if the tire blows up, the sun supernovas and the earth blows up. (I'm ok with that.) My next rear tire will be a Michelin Primacy Alpin (run flat snow tire). I'll use a 195/65/15 but that's on my Victory Vision. I don't know what other sizes it comes in but I DO know there's a guy who rode 11,000 miles from Key West, FL to Prudoe Bay, AK (on some of the shittiest roads in the world) on that same tire without an issue. (Search for "Rollin" on advriders.com.)

Finally in need of a back tire, got to work tonight and noticed some white starting to show through. How hard is it to move the belt guard over for those of us who are not so mechanically inclined?
