moving from Vermont to Missouri???

I am seriously considering a move from Vermont to Missouri. What do I have to look forward to and what will I regret? I know I will miss the gorgeous scenery up here and summers that aren't like an oven or sauna. I won't miss late Springtime or frost heaves. Schell City is the potential destination. Who lives in the area?

Thanks for posting everyone. My folks have lived there for about 15 years now. They transplanted from Massachusetts. I have visited a few times. My bike would never stay clean because they live on a dirt road, but there are plenty of paved roads and there is a Sonic in nearby Eldorado Springs. Since my wife and I split up this past year I have been living by myself with no family around and after a while family doesn't seem as dysfunctional as it used to be. My parents are getting on in years; 80 for dad (he still farms) and 75 for mom. My sister also lives near there. Also have two sisters in Florida (too damn hot and humid for me) and a brother in Massachusetts.

I moved from NY to Iowa, and I would have to guess the winters are a lot less severe. It's probably more humid in the summer though. The only things I missed were family, the ocean, and the variety of food and culture.

I was born in Jefferson City and live in eastern Nebraska now. Missouri has some fine roads to ride, and the climate will be more temperate. We'll be neighbors.

My one ride into eastern Missouri was like wrapping my head in a steamed towel, then putting my helmet over it. :(

Let's see....Things I can think of off the top of my head.....

No billboards in VT....billboards in MO.
One WalMart in the whole state of VT.....MO like most other states WalMart in almost every town.
A lot less snow in the winter than VT...longer riding season...in southern part of MO much like TN can ride year around by just catching those 'nicer days' in the winter.
Like TN in the winter probably have a lot of folks that don't know how to drive in snowy-icy conditions.
A few flakes of snow and everything closes.
That's all I can think of right now.:-*

moving from Vermont to Missouri???

Liz and I are about 2 1/2 hours NE of there. The area is between the Kansas pairies to the west and rolling hills with great fishing lakes like Stockton, Truman, Lake Ozark and Pomm de Terre to the east. With in 1 hour either east of south you can be on some great motorcycle roads.

Schell City is about 1 1/2 hours from Eureka Springs, AR. where the KawaNOW Central Rally is being held this year. Also the annual VROC Workd Reunion is held there as is the OKVROC Spring Fling. A larger Rally is the Bikes, Blues and BBQ held in Fayetteville, AR.

Vacation capitol of Missouri is about 1 1/2 hours away at Branson with all it's shows and attractions. Great float trips 2 hours east on the Current and Jack Fork rivers. Also east is several great State Parks and National Forrest. Almost everwhere there are Craft Festivals and Octoberfests.

Weather is much milder that even up here in Macon. No more winterizing taking the battery out of the bike. Just keep the gas tank full and add a little sea foam. Most of the time winter temps will be in the 30's and 40's but you could expect a few days of near 0. You should be able to get in a little riding even during the winter months of Dec, Jan and Feb. The area is in a higher risk for ice storms and there is alway the risk of tornados from April through September. Temp's in the summer will be from the mid 80's to 100+ and anywhere from 50 to 100 percent humidity.

I hope this helped and if there is any thing specific you want to know about I will try to be of help.

Missouri and Iowa are a little more out of than in tornado alley where Dorthy lived, although they can get some good ones, but it's all the same to Californians. I grew up in northern Iowa and Missouri seemed like the tropics in comparison.
