Follow Joe's instructions carefully and you shouldn't screw up anything. It's a fairly straight forward process.

Not familiar with the kit you have, but if you're going to be removing the solenoids, then no matter what action you take regarding the wiring, MAKE SURE TO SECURE WHATEVER YOU LEAVE ATTACHED TO THE BIKE SO THAT THEY MAY NEVER TOUCH ANYTHING OR EACH OTHER. Secure the ends well. Failure to do so could cost you an ECU.

Did you add a fuel processor ? I have Chucksters BAK and Cobra Powrpro. Very pleased with the results.

BAK is on and just did a skoot round the block.

1. Can HEAR the motor breath, that makes me feel good!
2. SEEMS crisper on throttle response, I'm sure most know what I mean.
3. Getting the bowl back on w/o the filter falling off was a challenge. The feeling of so close and yet so far away!
4. I will have to wait till a bit later to get her all warmed up for a better idea on performance. More honey do on the list if you know what I mean.

No I don't have a processor yet and can't decide on one. Ray seems to have the input I understand and accept. So probably the PCV.

Pipes I'll go with Ray again on the V&H's.

It doesn't hurt that they are both less expensive than their closest alternatives.

Also need more info on the tail end clean up and I think I'll be done for the season.

OK maybe it's just wishful thinking but as I pulled my bike into the garage...releasing the clutch..that thing JUMPED! It was not the heavy feeling beast I remember.

I've got to finish my stuff and get that ride in.

Still not used to the intakes increased sound on such a 'refined' bike (not sure if that's the right word?)
My ride yesterday was to and from the tax man so my mind wasn't available to wrap around the nuances and today I'm operating on 1 or 2 hours sleep.

By the by, any suggestions on the best price for a PC5?
I need another cup of coffee.

I personally think a PC5 is a waste of money unless you put the bike on a dyno and have it finely tuned. The Dobeck Techlusion is a very popular option for Nomads and is about 1/2 the cost. For most, it's more than sufficient.

I agree with Jared. Have the Dobec TFI processors on both my 1500 and 1600. No issues, easy to calibrate. Does make a difference and can redo them anytime and on the fly, or while I'm out riding. You might also consider the Kury Wild Thing. Same as the Dobec as far as I can tell, but cheaper. Shop around carefully and you'll find them even under 150.00 new.

Sounds more like you could use a Valium.

Note:

If you didn't get the filter seated properly on the backing plate, it could lead to some of the extra noise you are hearing and a lack of performance.

With the flat side of the filter against the backing plate and the curved face outward against the "Dog Bowl", the filter should nest in the groove on the backing plate and stay in position until you have the "Dog Bowl" buttoned up. It helps to grease the curved face of the filter for a better seal against the "Dog Bowl". The grease also prevents the filter from unseating while you get the holes on the "Dog Bowl" lined up for the retainer screws. Thunder MFG provides this grease and instructions for its use, but it was not included last year with my Chuckster BAK.

As you found, these BAKs are notoriously loud and your formerly "refined" engine will now make all sorts of obnoxious sounds including what may sound like knocking or air hammering...learn to live with it, get louder exhaust or wear ear plugs ;)

You will not fully appreciate any significant performance gains without new exhaust AND a good fuel manager. Based on my experience with this type of BAK on my 1700, as long as you just have the stock exhaust and no fuel manager, it will only provide very limited top end performance improvement (anything else, is partly the "placebo" effect from your new, louder toy). That is to say, without a better exhaust system and a fuel manager, you will only see a modest improvement in power, and only at wide open throttle. The BAK alone, may actually result in a drop in torque at low to mid throttle settings and require that you twist the throttle more than you needed to previously with the stock air box.

Once you stop wringing out the throttle to test your new toy, you may also find that your mileage improves a bit, but that means that you could be running dangerously lean on an already lean bike. So, even if you don't plan on new exhaust in the near future, I would recommend a fuel manager first, such as an EJK (by Dobeck) or the identical Bully (also made by Dobeck). Don't waste your time on the slightly cheaper TFI/Techlusion (Dobeck) with the older 4-Pot adjustment system and older technology. The TFI works, but for a few bucks more, the newer EJK/Bully comes preprogrammed for BAK plus New Exhaust, and is easily adjusted (without tools) by the user, all without the need for Dyno Tuning.

I don't have a tuner close to me so the refining is out for now and saving $100 or so gets me that much closer to V & H's! Really appreciate all the great input.

FYI Dobek also offers very nice discounts if you are military or a public servant like a cop, firefighter or ems worker . . .
