Fueling Questions

When I fill my 2007 Nomad (California model), I have problems with fuel streaming down the side of the tank for several miles (some seepage for as many as 50 miles under curvy or bumpy conditions). I was filling on the side stand to the bottom of the cup, but two dealers told me I was filling too far because it came up the cup half way when I put the bike upright. I tried filling to the bottom of the cup with the bike upright and had much less seepage, but still some on bumps, the first few miles.

No matter how far I fill, there is a strong gas smell as I ride and when I first park in my garage. No gas comes out the bottom or is on the ground. I just had the first service and the dealer could find no problems . I'm returning Tuesday with a fresh fill-up to the bottom of the cup for the service department to try again, and they will actually take it out for a ride this time.

I have looked at all of the threads and am not finding a complete answer to this problem. Are others experiencing this, or is it just my role in Kawasaki heaven? Do the rest of you fill to the bottom of the cup on the side stand? Anybody have a cure? I've never had a bike act quite like this.

To mdm44,
I have an '08, and normally fill up into the cup; notleakage on mine. I would agree that you probaly have a bad gasket on your cap.

I would assume it probably a bad gas cap also, I fill mine many times right up to the top, and a bit will leak out the overflo tube, but not slosh out onto the tank.

Slightly over the bottom of the fill tube on the side stand and no leakage on my 2005 1600 Nomad.

+1 I'll bet it's a bad gas cap seal.

Welcome from Louisiana. I have filled my '07 halfway up the cup and have not experienced any leakage. I normally fill to the bottom of the cup with no leaks and odors.

I fill mine up into the cup about 3/4 ....but then I have to ride it eight miles to get home ...so it comes down before I park it.
However ...It does not leak at all when I fill it up this full....nor did my 900 when I owned it.
You have a bad seal on your gas cap....hands down.

I too have this issue on my '01. The gas streaming down the tank and then out the overflow to the garage floor. I will only fill to the bottom of the cup when I know I will be riding for a bit more, otherwise I fill about a half inch below the cup and that has stopped the leaking.

I generally fill to the bottom of the cup, maybe a little over if I am filling and parking. If I want to make miles I fill to the top of the tank. No leaks so far.

Best bet. Bad gasket like everyone said.

If I fill to top of tank it runs out the over flow tube and ends up on the ground. At 4 dollars a gallon I don't want it on the ground. I want it making me go down the road
