Motorcycle Jack

Got one for Christmas and have used it to install a Stebel and engine lights, as well as for cleaning. It's especially good for getting to the wheels. It works great. However, I use blocks of 2x4's to lift on the frame rather than the engine, but this method has the bike a little lopsided when up, and is a bit of pain to line up.

What are you guys using with these jacks to lift the frame? Thanks!

Thanks for the referral Scoot. I have not tried to sell these with any amount of enthusiasm yet because I really would like to get feedback from some else to see what they think. Of course I think it is great but Myers-Briggs tells me that I'm a one percenter. IOW 99% of the population sees things different than me. Beezer is about to get one and I'm hoping to hear from him shortly after wards. I will say that when I put my Nomad in the air on the jack with my adapter it was as high as the jack would go and was solid as a rock.

I am in the market for a jack because, as I found out by reading MOM, I need to jack up the bike to check the air/add to air in the shocks. What is a good jack to get?

Mine came from JC Whitney, but Harbor Fieght and Sears has them also. They all work about the same from what I can tell.

I have the sears model and it extnds all the way from one side to the other. I only have to drive the bike up on a 1/2 inch board so I can slide the jack under the bike.

Isn't your bike unstable on that jack because the engine case hangs below the frame? I also have the Sears jack and that is why I designed an adapter to make the bike rock solid on the jack and avoid lifting on the engine case.

...I have a sears jack and it works very well. Although I have jacked it lifting on the engine case, a couple small blocks of wood on the front of the jack, one on each side, keeps the weight on the frame and off the engine. Works fine on my 1500!

I put a either a peice of board or 1" square tubing under the frame, and I strap the bike down to the jack when its raised up.

Idaho have you posted any pics on the adapter you developed? I'd like to check it out. Yes, my bike is unstable on the sears jack. That's why I have to strap the front down.

thanks

vin

I looked at the Sears jack yesterday. I think I'll order the one from Harbor Direct, it's about 1/2 the price of the Sears jack but I'll have to wait for it to be delivered.

What do you use to tie down your bikes?

I have tie downs straps with a ratchet I bought for my lift on the back of my bus, but I don't need them on the jack for cleaning and light wrenching. If I was torquing some nuts, I'd strap it down. It's stable enough for the light stuff. You'll come to learn where to place the jack under the frame for stability......
