Hey Guys,
When only adding slip on mufflers instead of a full exhaust system, is a fuel processor still needed for a proper tune? Would a processor be beneficial even with a stock bike? Thanks for the knowledge Wes

After market processors are still needed on a stock Nomad...

If you're just adding slip on mufflers, you do not need to add a fuel processor. You will however hear more popping on decel. A fuel processor with a proper map will all but eliminate that....and a fuel processor with an aftermarket air intake will create a lot more power...just sayin' :-)

Even just adding slip ons you need to install a fuel processor. The popping is telling you that your engine is running"LEAN". After a while the pipes will discolor, blue or brown and then possible major prolems
I just installed V&H slip-ons, Power Commander V and the Thunder K&N vertical air kit. Runs and sounds GREAT and no backfiring. Pay now or pay later!! Hope this helps. Mike |

The popping is the reed valves. And I've never had a set of pipes (factory or otherwise) that haven't had at least a little bit of bluing (other than a set of Hard Kromes once but I think they're double walled pipes).

Stock 08 Nomad, I put a fuel processor on it to stop the pinging and after installing it the fan almost never came on.
Since then I have installed Chuckster's dual plate intake kit. My friend has a 07 stock nomad no processor. We rode in a small parade this past Saturday. Temp was 52 deg and it was slow because of the people walking my fan never came on and his never shut off.

Since I first posted this thread, I've added a set of Cobra billet tipped slip on's, a Cobra Power Pro tuner, and a K&N filter.
Bike runs great. The mods made a huge performance and rideability difference, BUT, the pipe tips are still blueing, it still pops on decel, and the fan still runs fairly often. In my case, a tuner is not a cure all, but I'm still very happy with it.
