Go to ebay and look at the ones pinwal cycles have. They are a reputable shop and will sell you a god product.

If you want one to rebuild, I have a 1600 in CLT.

Why not put a 1600 in it?

Jared, it can be done. The bolt pattern for the carbs is different than the FI's.

To put a FI motor in a carb bike you have to drill and tap one hole in each head. The carb crossover lower bolt is placed differently that with the throttle body.

Goodie, what's wrong with your motor?
Mine only has 107,000 miles on it and still running strong...

Oldsofty that figures out to almost 137,000 miles. Good bike and good engine in the Nomad. It should last for a good many more miles as long as it is taken care of.

Thanks for the replies.
Wompus: The motor runs fine, it's the tranny that's going. It still runs, but won't stay in second, and is making a horrible rattle/scraping sound from the tranny. Other folks have said it costs too much to repair the tranny, and to just get a whole new motor. I would like to keep the carb., and it sounds like an FI motor can be made to work with a couple of new tapped holes in the heads.

I'm really looking for someone to do the whole motor/tranny change-out turn-key, as I do not work on bikes. Does Kawasaki still sell any crate motors that would work in my '99 Nomad?
I really want to keep riding the bike, as I like it, it is comfy, and would be cheaper with a new motor/tranny than a whole new bike.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Not to threadjack. Do my eyes deceive or is that a dozen or so mean greens all parked there?

I doubt Kawasaki sells a crate motor, and even if they did it would probably cost more than a used bike is worth. Ive seen them on Ebay a few times for under a couple thousand dollars.

danimal2: Yes I took that shot at a VROC Reunion in Arkansas a few years back. We had quite a few of the few, the proud, the green that day!

Cliff: Thanks. I'll check that out.

Does anyone know someone who could do a good job on the motor changeout, near ATL?
