Roads in Oregon that I would/wouldn't recommend

On my trip to the rally we criss crossed the Cascades a few times. Here are my recommendations, good and bad.

Hwy 138 from Diamond Lake to Roseburg...awesome ride along the Umpqua River not much traffic at all. Relaxing sweepers, no twisties, and all down hill...got 50 MPG (usually 40) !

Hwy 101 from Bandon to Crescent City...awesome scenery (ocean) but has a fair amount of traffic but it moves along ok. Weather was decent but I would not want to ride it real early or late in the day as fog may be an issue. Lots of places to stop for pics and services.

Hwy 38 from Reedsport to Eugene. Nice ride, good road surface, sweepers no twisties, lots of scenery, got to see elk and lots of the Umpqua River.

Hwy 126 from Eugene east to Hwy 22. Hwy 126 was my favorite ride on this trip. Hardly any traffic, great scenery and road surface. Sweepers.

Road 46 from Detroit to Estacada along the Clackamas River. A hidden gem that not many know about. Great scenery, a good combo of twisties and sweepers. No traffic. It is a relaxing ride as the speed limit is 45 in most places.

Hwy 58 from Eugene to Hwy 97....just sucks. Lots of traffic.

Hwy 22 from Sisters to Salem. Sucks. Lots of traffic and poor road surface.

With the exception of some high traffic sounds like the roads were great. Thanks for the information.

Compared to my experience riding in the states, the traffic moves a lot better than here in Canada. When I was in Buffalo yesterday during the dinner rush hour it was much better than when we cross the border. You guys have a much better road system there than we do.

Try 66. It'll test you big time.

Did you not get a chance to ride up Hwy 199? It was amazing too!

Try it 2 up.

Me and my gear are equivalent or greater than most two up. Then there was the chip coat gravel crap on 140. I took 66 it's length it seems. Ross thought it was a shortcut. There is no such thing as a shortcut. ::)

Hwy 140 North of Winnemucca. This road didn't get interesting until we were past Adel, OR.

I-80 from west of Salt Lake City to Winnemucca. I have always thought Wyoming was bad but this made I-80 across Wyoming look like paradise.

Hwy 20 from Bend to Ontario, OR. 120 to 130 miles between anything.
