So, you think it is hot. take a look at this.

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php....0&unit=0 &lg=en

One of my biggest surprises when I moved to Death Valley was that July and Aug. were by far (by far) the most heavily visited months

Why - Most of the visitors were from Europe and they wanted to see DV at it "best". ???

How long were you a US park ranger? To me that would seem like a great job. I would imagine the junior guy gets the least desirable station.

They can have it. I limit my travel in DV from late Fall through early Spring.

As I was driving to lunch today, they said we could hit 120° this weekend. Oh boy, I'm looking forward to that. ::)

The highest recorded temp in Phoenix was 122° and they had to shut down Sky Harbor Int'l Airport until it dropped below 120°.

My electric bill last month was $175. This month, it's $275. It will probably be close to $400 next month. Something else to look forward to. ::)

Glad I put a new air conditioner in last Dec. It should help with the electric bill. It seems to keep the house cooler.

The old one would not have made it thru another summer.

I had my truck into the shop this week for a new alternator, they wound up putting in a new radiator too. Dealership said they are at least 2 days behind working on cars due to the heat. :(" title="" border="0"/>

They said they can't keep up with all of the cars having air conditoner and battery problems and can't even deal with emergency issues because they are so swamped.

I was in the NPS for 33 yrs and in 9 different parks. It was my career goal to make it to DV which is known as a Rangers' Park - big, wide open and lots of work in SAR, EMS, LE and even wildland fire. It is hot in last spring to late fall - but those that live there learn how to deal with that. It might surprise folks to know there are 3 mountain rangers in DV NP with mountains going as high a 11,900 feet - lot's of snow in those Mts and cool temps in the summer.

We have natural gas heat, for the small amount we run the furnace in the winter, it reaches $120 or so. This time of year, it's $30.
