Chrome water pump cover installation
I purchased a used chrome water pump cover for my bike and don't have the instructions. It looks pretty easy to install, but appears as though I have to pull two screws out of the water pump. That being the case, do I need to drain the coolant? I just flushed it a month ago, so I hoping it's not necessary. Those that have the pump cover, how do you install it?

I went out and checked mine and it looks like two screws hold it on. Id just remove them and install the piece, quickly if it starts to drip. You shouldn't lose anymore than a spoon or so at best.

That is what I did. Lost maybe two table spoons of coolant when doing it, but it seemed to work out okay.

I think the lower screw is the water pump drain hence the small amount of coolant loss.

Where would I find the water pump on an '01? I don't know what I have covering mine, and now I am wondering what it looks like.
Thanks for your time

When I installed mine, I lost zero coolant. It installs using the top/right water pump cover screw (with a stand off spacer) and the bottom left screw is one of the right engine side cover (clutch cover) screws. The #1 reason I got it was so I would have a place to hang the idle control cable. I didn't like it just hanging there between the cylinders, and it was also my favorite color (chrome)

You can never have too much chrome. Glad you got it figured out on how to install Jared. Good job.

My chrome pump cover touched the front header pipe (V&H Baggers); it may not be an issue for stock exhaust. I cut off the leading edge of the pump cover (maintaining the same angle for appearance) so it would not touch the pipe.

What about heat and touching? I don't have the WP cover, but heat would be a concern if it touched. My 06 cooks the right side cover near where the bagger head pipe is. This has blistered the paint a bit. I plan to trim the right side cover one day.
If anyone else has the problem use wide masking tape on the cover, both sides, draw the line to cut, and cut it just outside the line. Finish with a medium fine 1/2 round hand file. Then sand paper finer still.

I have a question On my 99 1500 nomad I was wondering if I removed the 2 bolts that hold the little bracket that holds the idle mixture cable to clean or replace with a chrome one would that cause a leak from the water pump cover? thanks
