Coaster Plates
I installed Chuckster's dual plate intake system on Friday. Been raining ever since so I have not been able to ride. Maybe ride to work Thurs. & Friday if the weather cooperates. :)
My question is; what benefits would I get from installing chuckster's coaster plates? And can they be installed without pulling the gas tank? Thanks, Bob

If you haven't marbled the reed valves, then they will eliminate the air flow into the exhaust. Thus eliminate any backfiring. If you have marbled then they will clean up the look of the bike.
Get them and put them on. Yes you can do this without removing the tank. MT

The hose for the reed valves is plugged, solenoids removed, hoses capped and the Chuckster dual intake kit installed per his instructions.
So I guess the only advantage to the coasters is cosmetic??

Yup mainly cosmetic. When you do this, the left side will be a bit tight to deal with since I assume you still have that black pipe cross over tube in place.
I have never done one with that pipe still in place yet, so will bet you end up talking like a sailor far out to sea when you do. A little trick might be to hack saw off a 5 mm allen rel short and use a 5 mm wrench. And if I were you I would remove the tank and then remove all that crap from the medusa head. You will know what I mean when you see it.

Depends maybe on what is getting covered. If you leave a marble in too long you risk toasted reed valves. Them's is made of plastic. They get heated up pretty good when they don't open, and are at a risk being there and not getting used.
That medsa head blows in air passing these, which must tend to cool them somewhat. The medusa head is a vac pod with all large diameter tubings but one smaller one, which you can remove or you can plug with a screw coated liberally with silicon sealers.

Mac - interesting.
So you're suggesting that the marble isn't a good long term solution? I guess this explains why folks use the coaster plates (other then to clean up the look)

Yeah kinda.... I have never heard of a cooked reed valve yet, but when I saw mine I saw that could happen maybe. I have every part I ever took off as stock too.
It would take a long day to make my bike all stock again, but i could if I wanted. The hardest part would be the black plastic air cross over tube, since I cut it, but I cut it with the idea I could plastic weld it back if I wanted. If and When I ever sell the bike I would be willing to sell it as is with the parts or put it back and sell the parts I put on to someone else. But I have no plans to sell the Nomad.
