Might be worth a try. You won't be out much $$ if it doesn't work. I used a punch and a small mallet on mine.

That tool will not work Bud. It only opens to 1 1/16" wide and you need it to open to 1 3/4". Also the fork stem sticks up a bit and would be in the way.

Thanks Steve, that's what I wanted to know.

There is a suggestion on Gadget's site to drill holes into the jaws of a crescent wrench and install studs. I'm looking for the parts.

CJ, I thought about that method but really want the tightening to be a little smoother than that.

Bud, here's what I use Click Here, I don't know if this is exactly like mine, but I did have to dremel a little off the notch on the one I have to make it fit the nut.

Thanks Cliff, Are you able to get that wrench down onto the same plane as the nut or do you have to kind of tip the handle up to get to the nut?

Bud, it's been a while since I did mine, and if I remember correctly, If you turn the bars to either full left or right, it'll be in plane.

Personally I just use a pipe wrench. I drop a shop cloth over the nut to keep from marring the metal and haven't had any issues getting a good grip and getting the torque to the right "feel"

Price is certainly right. I may use that suggestion.

You can buy the right outer diameter socket from anywhere. Then grind out four notches like
http://www.gadgetjq.com/hans_socket2.jpg

It will take a little time, but then you can apply the proper torque.

I spotted that on Gadgets site also. Just don't have a fancy grinder to get that job done.

Here, lets get your shop setup right.

I thought you were talking about a smaller grinder like some kind of dremel tool or something. I have a good 4inch angle grinder if that it what it takes to make one of these things.

I think I used the bench grinder the most, but an angle grinder should work. I think a dremel will bog down on these sockets. It is best to try and mark your 4 slots to keep, and then start working each one, going back and forth with the part it needs to fit in, leaving yourself some room to play with.

You may have to grind some on the inside of each leg, if when lined up it still won't fall down into place on the part. Depends on the socket you wind up with. It takes a little time, but it works nice when you get it completed.
