Vaquero side bag doors on an 1500

I'm thinking of replacing my bag door with the new vaquero doors, the bags are the same including the hinges. I can pick up the new doors from mama kaw for half the price of the correct doors. Not that I need new doors I'm just hankering to change things up a little bit.

If you need new doors, then yes if cheaper and you like the smooth look go for it. But if you are just changing them to smooth them out? Then can you buy them the colour of your bike? If not you need to paint them right? If that's the case wouldn't it be cheaper to fill in the lines and then have the old doors painted? I've seen it done before and looks good. If your going to custom paint them (like a mural) then again I would say spending the money when you don't need them could be used on other CUSTOM items to make your ride even better.

Just my .02

I'm with Scott, spend the money on something else. Unless those doors are what you really want.

I wouldn't bother replacing them unless there was a good reason to.

Guys, it isn't your money he wants to spend. If he wants the new doors, then he should go for it. Uh, providing they fit, of course.

hehe, no to the paint. My bike is black and maroon, mostly black. I was thinking of just picking up the black doors and leaving them black. Only thing wrong with my doors is a few small scratches where some tool knocked it over at bike night last summer. My paint isn't faded at all and the bike stays garaged when I'm not riding. New replacement doors for the 1500 is about 300 per side, the Vaq doors are 250 for both from my local dealer. Just for kicks Me and one of the salesmen (another 1500 nomad owner) swapped the Vaq's bags onto his nomad at the store and their the exact same bags, the only difference is the doors are smooth with the reflector on the lower rear corner of the doors. I'm honestly 50/50 on swapping the doors or just buffing out the scratches and replaceing the top stripe on my bags. I'm not wanting a batwing nor a full trunk on my bike as my tailbag and roll bags generally hold everything I need for a trip and then some. I don't double up often but do it enough that I can't really solo the bike out like I did my last bike. I'm already rolling on the darkside and have the bike pretty well set up the way I want it other than the shock balance kit and risers (which have been ordered). It's just one of those what else do I want to do to make mine look enough different to be truly Mine......
