Rear Oil Drain Bolt Question

Does the drain bolt have a washer? If so I must have lost mine. I was doing the change of the 75W-90 rear drive oil and when I took the bolt out I noticed it didn't have a washer on the bolt or the housing itself. If one is needed does anyone know the correct size? Thanks.

Rear Oil Drain Bolt Question

According to the schematic there is one but the parts list doesn't give a size for it or the bolt.

The bolt has a washer which they suggest is replaced upon removal for draining it.
That washer is:
Part number 92022-1086 $1.53

Rear Oil Drain Bolt Question

I found mine at the bottom of the drain pan while pouring it into a storage container. It wasn't leaking at all but the oil was cold. I pulled the plug and placed the washer on the plug while keeping the oil from draining with a spare finger. I was lucky to notice it at the bottom of the drain pan. That washer is very easy to lose if you aren't careful.

Next time I'll have to look if I have one on there, I don't have any leaks regardless.

Funny same p/n different price? I went to an 08 Nomad (as that is what Gene's sig profile said he has) and that is the p/n and price from Ron Ayers.
Is the link and p/n price you provided the same year? strange how it would be different?? Anyway forgot to mention it's cooper.

Surprised it didn't show up some where on the floor?

I got the part # and price from Cheap Cycle Parts. They probably charge $12 to ship a washer to you.

Rear Oil Drain Bolt Question

Pretty common item. Armed with the inside and outside dia + the thickness and you probably can pick one up for less at a decent auto parts store.

Rear Oil Drain Bolt Question

Thanks a bunch guys. I ended up and went to Ace Hardware and found a suitable washer. I remember changing it one time and saw it in the drain pan. Got it out and cleaned it up and put it back on. When I pulled the drain bolt out today there was no washer. The rear hadn't leaked any as there was no residue on anything. Guess it is best to have the washer but probably can make do without it. When you change you have to be really careful or it will be in the drain pan. Guess the last time I changed it I wasn't careful enough. Then today I couldn't remember while draining it if it had a washer or not.

Rear Oil Drain Bolt Question

On my '05 it is aluminum. It is a soft aluminum and is used as a gasket, like the one on the engine oil drain plug, or on the banjos for the brakes and clutch.
