HID Lights

btw...I have NO personal knowledge on this, but a fellow Vulcan Riders Association member (who is very mechanical/technical) installed one of these on his Vulcan 800 and loves it.... AND the price is CHEAP!

Heres his thoughts: "It actualy operates at less temperature and less current draw than factory 55w H4 bulb. Been in my bike for 18 months or so, only complaint i have is people that you follow tend to throw things at you, especially at night. Its like riding in a helicopter with the daylight light operating compared to stock bulb"

??? Is the H4 the one we need? My buddy just put HID in his pickup. What a difference.

The STOCK bulb in the Nomad is indeed an H4. Many driving lights that are not SEALED beam use the H3 bulbs (like some fog lights have).

My Mini has them stock and the colour is 6000K which when new is pretty white. I would opt for the 8000K ( a bit bluer) but over time they will fad a bit and be closer to what the 6000K are when new. After the 6000K get a bit older they start to fad toward YELLOW. I had to replace one in my car. I put in the first one (bought a pair) and were suppose to be the same temp. When I turned on to TEST found there was quite a difference so now the OLD one is a spare

Just and FYI....

These probably wouldn't work with a headlight modulator, would that be a safe assumption?

Never hear of someone trying it, but NO I would not.

The HID lighting uses a high energy discharge via an ignitor and even though the wattage is lower (35W, compared to 55W) the voltage is extremely high to ignite the ARC in the light to get the gas to glow. Now imagine how turning that on and off a bunch of times every minute!!! It could shorten the bulb life and the ignitor/ballast as well.

So even if someone said it COULD be done...I wouldn't!!!!

FWIW, Gadget has a post on his site where he made it work.

If you read it, the kit he used had a HID and Halogen bulb used in it. He would have connected his headlight modulator to the halogen bulb not the HID bulb. If that is the way you do it YES can be done. If however you get one of the kits listed in this post (link) they are 1 bulb with a magnet that draws the bulb so it has hi/low beam in a HID configuration. That bulb setup is not recommended for the headlight modulators. So it would depend on the kit and HOW you wired it up as to IF it would work, or should be connected at all.
Since HID lighting is much brighter and whiter light, even in daylight it would get attention compared to other DRL systems and so the modulator would not be required (IMO) in those cases.

HID Lights

I have HID kits on my wish list for both of my bikes. The reason for me wanting to install the kits are for the brighter intensity as well as the noticeable whiter color. There are lots of places that sell them but I'm interested in kits and ease of install! I've included a couple of other places that sell kits and perhaps a sponsor sells them? Or a member can recommend a specific vendor?

Yes I did notice the extra Halogen bulb for the modulator but I agree, you probably won't need the modulator anyway with HID
