Windsheild height for passenger with fairing

I want to have 2 windshield, one for touring with my wife, and one for the bad boy look , short and dark on the weekend rides

I figured, it takes less then 5 min to switch out the windshield, and Clear-view has then with small dimples, etc, for less then $100 a pc, so for $200 bucks, I can have a 6.5 Dark tinted windshield for myself with re-curve, and now I need to figure out the height for my wife, so she doesn't feel like her heads in a
popcorn machine

I measured with a level, with my wife sitting on the bike, and the top of her head measures 16" from the top of my fairing

I could go with a 17.5 windshield, but I think it will look really big/bad on the bike

So the next size down, is 15.5, then 14 inches

Clear-view says with the re-curve, it takes the air over 1-1/2"-2"

Can someone tell me, that rides with a passenger all the time, what size would the passenger like? Another few inches over what you have, how do they feel at highway speeds all day on the bike, etc

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

This is only when my wife rides on the back, or I take long trips in a few days, covering over 1K miles etc

For myself, I want a certain look, so I'm OK with the 6.5" Dark Grey with re-curve

Here's a pic of my bike with the windshield from Reckless fairings

I wish I could help you. I have an 8" windshield on mine, which is fine for me - but I never ride two-up so I can't say how it works for a passenger.

Yes, that link could definitely cost anyone a ton of money. It has had almost 5,000 hits.

I have a Premeux fairing, and it came with a standard 10" clear, and I also got the 6" dark. After a couple of seasons, I replaced the 10" with the light smoke 9" from Clearview with the re-curve. My wife is 5'8", and she loves how the 9" Clearview knocks the wind off. Remember, as the buffeting forces travel over the shield, they continue to rise. As a mater of fact, I have a flag mounted on my tour pak (Ultra Classic) were the CB antenna was supposed to be, and it doesn't even flutter going down the road.

Wow, 9" is the flag barley moves, perfect, saves me from adding a hugh windsheild on it for when whe rides

I think I'll order the 10.5", and be done. I'll just go alittle taller, just to be safe

I'm also going to order the 6.5" Dark tint, for when I ride by myself

Thanks for the help

I have the short shield and my wife has never complained any about wind or buffeting.

The MSF recommends that you be able to see over the top of the shield to avoid situations where the shield gets obscured by water, mud, bugs, or whatever else might get splattered all over it -- making is impossible to see through it. It happens.

Just a "safety" suggestion you need to think about before getting a new one. ;)

10/4, I'm a " look through " windshield, I understand the safety reasons, but in 10+ years riding with look through, never had a incident where my vision through the windshield was obscured

I just talked it over with my wife, and she would like a little taller one, as nomad-rider suggested, so I may go with the 12"

either way, Now I have feedback on the 9" and 12", so I know I don't have to go with this monster 14"+, thank god, cause I HATE the looks of tall windshileds :)

I just ordered the 12" light tint with re-curve for when I ride with the wife, and on long trips

I also ordered the 6-1/2" Dark grey with re-curve for riding around town, and by myself

Total was $178.00 for the two windshields shipped from Clear-view :)

Hope it works out for you, but you've got to remember...

if you haven't ever crashed your bike before... it doesn't mean it isn't going to happen some day.

In other words.... just because you haven't had a truck meet you half-way around a corner sloshing mud all over your shield rendering you virtually blind while you fight to survive the turn... doesn't mean it isn't going to happen.

There are reasons the MSF recommends what they do -- mostly because it happens frequent enough to cause concern.

Sounds like you are carrying some of your most valuable cargo on the back of your bike... I wouldn't want "looking through a windshield" to catch-up with you someday with her on the back.

Just saying for safety's sake... that's all my friend. Just saying for safety's sake. Think about what you said and what you are doing.

So, if your looking over the windshield, and the mud hits you in your face, either you have to look through your goggles, or glasses, or through a windshield

2ndley, I just got back onto my bike, after someone pulling out in front of me last year, and after three operations on my shoulders, Im back riding again. The driver never looked and pulled out right in front of me.

I hear what your saying, but some where a helmet , some don't, I do, doesn't matter what everyone else does, and I choose to look though a windshield. Ive been hit in the face to many times by a puddle when it rains right in the face, I don't care what they say, either way, it takes a few seconds to clear your goggles or windshield, just my 2 cents, and its my ride, but I appreciate the concerns, thank
