Coolant leak--Final Chapter, problem solved

Ok, the last two times I have been out on the bike I have had major coolant leakes from the overflow or whatever that tube is that comes out underneath the midpoint of the bike.

About 3 weeks ago I took the bike in to have one of the top hoses replaced. Two Sunday's ago, I left it running while I went into the office (about 3 min) and came out to coolant leak. Today it leaked when we were on the road at a stop light in Daytona.

I have no idea why it would happen. Ross said it could be bad radiator cap, someone else said crimped line somewhere...I don't know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Id check to make sure you have a properly working thermostat first, if its stuck shut it will let the engine get hot and spew antifreeze.

Have you ever flushed the sytem?

I'd pull the tank, flush the system, then put in a new t-stat.

Coach, A friend of mine has a Mean Streak that I believe his was leaking out the same tube you are talking about, his ended up being some seal that is behind the water pump. I thought he said it was a seal that went around the shaft that drives the water pump?? Hope this helps, let me know what you find, and if I can help in any way....

Goose that line runs out in front of the brake pedal.

The one exiting midpoint comes off the filler neck and under the tank.

I wish I didn't know which was where.

In the last month there isn't much that I haven't had apart on my 03.

Yes Goose, I rebuilt the forks ,(Progressive springs and 15 weight oil) did the swingarm service, final drive oil, and rebuilt the engine due to the bearing that the trans output shaft rides on coming apart.

The new ecm is supposed to be here Mon after shorting out the FI 2000 and killing the ecm.

Hopefully I'll be done for awhile. I'm far enough south that I ride year round as long as there is no snow.

Wow, {the bearing that the trans output shaft rides on coming apart.} Thats the 2nd one of these that I've heard of, what was the symptoms of this bearing failure? Hey you gonna have that thing back together before November, we're planning to ride over just south of you, maybe you can look us up then..

A death rattle and vibration.

I was riding it last week until I shorted the FI 2000 and ecm.

It should be back on the road 10 minutes after the ecm arrives.

Where are you guys riding and when?

Ron, Citrus Cycle Center in Lecanto has a good bike service man (Mark). The service manager is Joe Scott, ask for Mark to work on your bike. Of course like all dealers they are not cheap.

I have know Joe for years...his mom and my wife taught together. I am going to call Joe tomorrow and see what he thinks it is. May do it myself if it is too much for labor.
