Rolling Vaquero

Passed my first rolling Vaquero yesterday; a black one. I had not seen one out of the showroom, until then. Those bikes are head turners for sure. Funny thing is about two minutes later I passed a Nomad. Must have seen two hundred bikes yesterday of which three where Kawasaki's.

Rolling Vaquero

I haven't seen a Vaquero on the road yet, but on our ride back and forth to Baton Rouge today, we met so many bikes I could have surely missed one. We had to have seen over 100 bikes today. The weather was picture perfect.

Saw my first one today at a bike show. I was not impressed, especially not by the cheapo plastic piece atop the tank.

I have yet to see one in a showroom, on the road or anywhere else except magazines and here on the forum.

I havn't seen one yet either other than in pics. I doubt I will see one until I go to the rally in June. Even since the new Voyager came out Ive only seen a couple of them here in Canada.

I saw one a couple weeks ago. That red one is the cat's meow.

Not to got off subject too much, but what is it that people don't like about the plastic parts? They are lighter, they don't rust, and they are cheaper to produce which mean cheaper for us to buy.

Sure they feel light and not as sturdy, but anything that would damage the plastic would also damage a metal part, right?

Just curious what peoples thoughts are?

I don't so much mind plastic as long as it feels sturdy. Those bags and trunk on the new Voyager just feel flimsy to me. Grab a bag on an HD Ultra and it feels solid as a rock. My Premeux trunk feels solid, but the one on the Voyager does not. Notice they don't have a stock luggage rack to put on top of it? You have to get one made for a different bike.....why is that? As if you don't already know....just my .02 cents.... .

I believe I was told Kawasaki doesn't recommend mounting a rack on the Voyager trunk, it's isn't sturdy enough.

What I don't like about plastic is that it is harder to fix. Not many people have plastic welders laying around and know how to use it. So, when it gets screwed up, you have to replace it. Metal can be worked, but it's heavier and it can oxidize. On the other hand, metal/paint will get damaged easier in a sense. I had plastic fenders on the 800 Classic I used to own and I went down once. The fender got just a nick, but I think if it was metal, it would have been bent a bit. So, YMMV. If the plastic is high quality and constructed well, that may be the better material. I agree with Netnorske that the plastic on the voyager/nomad needs another millimeter or two of thickness. I wonder if anyone is listening? I am sure they've been told...

That is true. If the plastic parts are crappy than you don't want them! I forgot about how flimsy the bags are on the 1700s compared to the 1600. But for small things that aren't meant to hold any weight, fenders, side covers, speedo covers, belt guards, horn covers, air-box, etc, I think plastic (if good quality) is acceptable.

I've seen a Road Glide fairing on the 1500/1600 Nomad, so I would think it's possible.
