Clutch slipping
All right I'm now a statistic.
new leftover '07 with 40,000 miles, dobeck TFI, Roadhouse exhaust, coasters. About two weeks ago I changed my spark plugs, as a matter of fact just before I visited MAC, and I thought I had an issue with my work. It felt like there was a lag in acceleration. So I tweaked my TFI again and after a few runs along with a little different settings felt that the issue was a dead one. Anyway a ride up to NH, back and a few other daily rides and all seemed well. But yesterday I decided to crack the throttle while going through the gears and I felt that lag in acceleration only this time I noticed my tach as it jumped about 600 rpm's before it leveled back off when it grabbed completely. Went to gadget's site, looked up past postings and instead of going mean streak spring I just ordered the MT-25 barnet clutch spring. I also contacted Bob about getting some judges washers. Now I have a question. In gadget's site it says the judges washers will make your wheel lock up but if that as well as a barnett mt-25 clutch spring, am I going to far? The wheel only locks up if you don't gear down properly, I like having a positive feel to the clutch. I used the Meanstreak spring and the clutch felt a lot better over the original without the Judges washers.

Jimmy; Im not sure if they are really necessary on the 1600's, Kawi changed something that sort of does the job the washers do. Ive never looked at a 1600 clutch assembly so Im not sure what they changed from the 1500's

I replaced my clutch spring with the Barnett. I did not install Judge's washers. It grabs a lot better than the original spring ever did.
One bit of advice: use a 1/2" impact wrench and a stout air compressor to break the large clutch nut loose. That baby is tight. Reinstall it using hand tools, not the impact gun.

On the 1600 the carrier, or holder, is different, follow the link and look at part # 13280 a&b. Kaw kinda took Judges design and incorporated it. You don't need the washers on a 1600. I actually traded these pieces out of my 1600 for the equivalent from the 1500. I just like the feel better. See how 13280a fits into the spring, the 1500's, except for the 04's, didn't have that piece. It's basically half of Judges design.

I'd also like to mention I have used only dino oil since I was skeptical of synthetic oil as all mechanics at my dealership feel the wet clutch should have dino or semi-synthetic being the closest to pure synthetic.
I'm not sure till this day about synthetic, but that's just me. I just figure I change the oil by 3,000 miles anyway and the oils have improved across the board. (I use spectro 10/40). As an additional point the dealer claims that the cruisers need clutch work before most other bikes and say the reason is do to the torque on them. |

I run Mobil 1 for cars, and it seems fine to me. I have 1/2 the miles you do Jim. Some guys gotta pretend to work.

I have the Barnett MT-25 on hand for when the day comes. No Judge's washers.
