Is there cash value-unused Nomad Extended Warranty

When my 07 Nomad was totaled, I was talking with my dealer about buying another bike. I mentioned that my GTP Warranty still had nearly 4 years on the totaled bike. My dealer informed me he could help me cash in the remaining warranty. I was surprised that I could get my money back, but I thought what the heck. I figured it could be $300.

I gave him copies of all my paperwork he requested. About 2 months later, I asked him if he had heard anything. He said, yes, they had asked for proof the bike was totaled in the accident. I thought I had already sent him all of that but I sent him more copies of the accident report and insurance papers.

It is has been several more months now and I still haven't heard anything. I figure phone calls won't make any difference. Now I am thinking I was right in the first place to assume such a rebate was impossible.

I am just curious if anyone has any experience in this area.

Perhaps if you buy another Kawasaki product they could apply the warranty towards the new bike.

Looks like you should be able to get a portion back. I would be making phone calls and emailing. Pester the $hit out of them until they do something. If they don't hear from you they will figure you don't care.

I'm inclined to agree with you Gene. I would be calling, and doing whatever it took to get their attention about this. There is a head rep for not only your area in Texas, but one for the U.S.of A.. I'd be on their butts asking for compensation of some kind if they won't give you a cash settlement. But that's just how I operate Bill.

Seems like you should be able to transfer the remaining warranty to a new bike (or a used one if it was still in the original warranty period). I'd be really surprised to hear about actually getting a refund.

My stolen 01 had 2 years left, and I wasn't allowed to put that on my 06. Didn't please me any.. It became a total loss... I hope in your case you can regain it.

I would be interested in hearing more about this. I also would be interested in reading the "small-print" of the insurance contract (warranty) to see if it states anything about this.

At first glance, I would say there would need to be a refund on this. I know there are state-laws regarding what warranties can and cannot cover -- as well as addressing refund issues.

I didn't notice what state (or country) you were in before I started typing, but I would be looking at your state laws (in the U.S., the state laws govern insurance contracts (to which a warranty is considered as an insurance product).

Again... if there was a way to read the small print, I would love to do that to see what it says.

In the meantime... ring the phone off the hook on this. ;)

Thanks for the responses. Some good thoughts for sure..

GL Wilson made a good point. In that I can only ask MaKaw to do what the contract says. Since I live in Texas, it really doesnt matter what the contract says. The "laissez-faire" Texas State Government won't help and it would be silly to hire a lawyer.

I did notice that after a couple of days of this posting, no one has mentioned ever cashing in the GTP warranty. I was skeptical and I feel that I was right . I also feel I have already wasted too much of my time making copies, phone calls ect.

I think I will send an email to the dealer and ask where we are on this refund. Knowing full well that email will never be answered. Now if someone says they got hundreds of dollars back, I will put my dealer on my phone speed dial. :) :)

I come out of the automotive arena and I can tell you that your Extended Warranty is an "insurance product" and as such the company is regulated by your state's Dept. of Ins. Fire off a complaint to the Dept. of Insurance of the State of Texas and I bet you get a call from Kawasaki.
Good luck and stay on top of it!

Bill, stay on top of it. When I totaled mine I did get a refund on my remaining warranty, it took a while but it finally came through. There is a standard deduction and then it was pro rated, but it was still better than nothing. A gentle reminder to the dealer doesn't hurt every now and then.
