Little help.....

While riding this past weekend I had this happen 2 times. While engaging the starter it would kick in then hesitate then kick in again and start but during that hesitation my power would cut off for a second and my clock and trip meter would reset. Anyone have this happen before and know what the problem is?

Time for a new battery.

It will only get worse, until it strands you somewhere.

I must have the only AGM battery that's any good. My 06 battery is as good today as it was in 06.

Thats a classic symptom of a battery needing replacement.

My 07 still has the original battey and still going strong.
Of course I think Mr. Shumacker might have something to do with that

I still have my OEM battery in my 2007. I ride my bike at least every week of the year, it doesn't have to sit for months during the winter.

Little help.....

Is this the "kiss of death" or what? My '06 is still going as new. I plug the battery tender in every time I come back from a ride. Or almost every time.

Like the others have said, could be the battery going south, BUT, first I would disconnect the terminals, clean them good, and make sure they're tight when you reattach them, don't forget to clean the ends of the cables too.

Well if it were my battery the first thing I would do is go get a 20 dollar Shumaker charger which IS auto float and Anti sulfaction.

I would charge that 18 Ah amp hour battery for 18 hours.

Then with a multimeter I would test it.

That would be take that reading as charged which is a fake reading.

Then I would bump the start motor NOT starting the engine, but to get the head lamp ON and be on Hi beams, till the meter reads 12.6 dcv.

Then switch OFF and wait a few moments and read the meter again and see what it says.

Then I would crank the bike over reading the meter hoping to not see less that 10.0 dcv.

Then because this type charge can bring back with anti sulfation pulse chrg the battery again timing when the green light comes on.

These are NOT car batteries...... These are puny 18 Ah batteries.

These do not have 1,000 cold cranking amps, and are not 650 amp AH batteries.

If you let these batteries set about for weeks at a time not in use they will die. If that time is months they will die faster.

Anytime these batterys are not being charged they are dying. So if they ARE being charged by riding, or are on a charger you can expect a lot of years.

Less being parked at work for the day these bikes should be moving or on a charger period.

Currently my cage has a battery that I might have bought in 1997. I am folling around with it and this morning after sitting for 2 days not on a this charger because the bike is, that old battery was reading 12.5 dcv., and this is or WAS a problem battery, but I bet it makes this winter just fine.

We've got all of you beat - 2001 and 2003 both with original batteries and no battery tenders, ever.

Geez, thanks for bringing that up Scott. Fall is here and it won't be long before I put my bike on life support.
I really didn't want to think about that. :(

I really wasn't trying to rub it in. I was merely pointing out that my bike gets ridden 52 weeks out of the year and doesn't have to sit idle for several months.
