Boots and Jacket
What do you guys use to waterproof your leather boots?
I also have a Vanson leather jacket that is still pretty stiff and want to use something to help soften it a bit more. Wearing it has helped but it could be a bit more plyable than it currently is.

The only thing I've found that truely water proofs leather boots is rain boots. There's a number of good products on the market that will soften your jacket. Water proofing leather defeats leathers purpose. It's supposed to breath. I wear Frog Togs to stay dry.

Same here OB. I use saddlesoap to clean and keep the leather plyable. I always have rain gear with me so I keep my leathers dry. Boots on the other hand are tough. Waterproofing can only handle so much water.Ya need to just keep them covered as much as possible too.

I have been looking online for some leather boots that are waterproof and there aren't that many out there that claim that, some say water resistent. I have some clear paste also that like meanstreak says, helps keep it plyable but they soak water up just the same.

I don't wear leather boots, I wear gore-tex work/hunting boots with 600 grams of thinsulate. Gore-tex keep feet dry, thinsulate keep feet warm in winter and cool in summer. May not be a biker boot but it works for me :)

::) I use "Sno Seal" On the boot welt & stitching Its an old formula of Bee's Wax thats been around a long time. For my Jacket, Chaps, and the rest of my Boots and Leather's I use
"Mink Oil" or "Needsfoot Oil" two old tried & true Products. They'll work, but as OB said if yer goin ta spend some time in the wet, Ya need rain gear. But either of the mentioned oil's will soften & protect, they are inexpensive, tho many people don't use them because of the oil smell, which I don't mind & it diminishes in time. Hope this helps. ![]() |

I use "Sno Seal" on my boots also. After I apply it I go over it with a hair dryer to melt it into the seams and stiching. Works pretty good. You can't stand in a bathtub full of water or anything but it works pretty good otherwise ;)

I've always used mink oil paste to make my leather water resistant, and neets foot oil to condition them.

I just wear basic Roper Boots with rubber soles. I use a Kiwi paste wax on my boots and then spray them with "Peguin UltraDry". I've never had the leak even after wading through ankle deep water crossings.

kawgirl...I've been using the same thing on my boots, jackets, and chaps, that I've used on saddles and horse tac for years w/ good results. Lexoil and saddle soap for cleaning, and Neatsfoot Oil for waterproofing and conditioning. They're designed not to seal leather, but repel water and protect and condition leather. Give it a shot, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results!
