Trucker Angels

We have a friend who lives close here in Everett, WA. She has been bravely battling cancer for some time now. She recently drove to Arkansas to pick up her three grandchildren and bring them home to her place as her daughter is battling drug problems.

After breaking down somewhere outside Kansas City, a trucker stopped to help her out. Once her mission was known to the truckers....they basically made sure she had a truck escort the entire way back to Washington! One truck was always behind her....and when he had to turn off, he handed her off to the truck behind him....and so on, and so on.

I always selfishly get pissed at truckers because they are in my way when riding, but to be honest, it's heartwarming to know they are as tight a bunch as we are and willing to help in such a monumental way! Kudos to those drivers and anyone here who is a part of that culture....my hat is off to you guys!

Most of them are a pretty good bunch of guys, just tryin to earn a buck.
That was a really nice gesture they did for her.
Good to hear stuff like that.

I am a trucker myself. It's time a lot of folks realized that if we don't roll, neither do you... Think about that for a minute, and imagine what if... All trucks in this country stopped rolling for a week, would you appreciate us then? ::) Where would you get the diapers, or milk, or bread?? ??? You name it, a truck brought it if you didn't make it or grow it yourself. It's good you see this thru someone elses eyes, and plight like that woman's, but these things happen more than you ever will know, and more than we truckers will ever get credited for. Thanks for recognizing it this time, will you see it the next time? Kudos to you friend. ;)

Back in the mid to late 70s I drove an 18 wheeler. Only did it for a year as I didn't want to miss my children growing up. It is a tough life on the road. Most of the drivers are a decent bunch and will help anyone out.

Speaking of truckers, lets digress a bit. Do they still use CB's? I usually listen to channel 19 when I ride my Ultra but I very seldom hear any chatter around town

Dave...

I don't know for sure... but I have heard them the few times I have had mine on.

I wouldn't know of any other way they could communicate otherwise... and I do believe they like to communicate while on the road.

Back to the thread... that's a great story.

Yep, they run on ch19. I enjoy making conversation with them on road trips. Most are great guys with a few pinheads thrown in for good measure. They will do almost anything for fellow travelers and start to watch out for me when run with them on the bike. You know, warnings about road debris and chuckholes, that kind of thing.

When traveling on my bike I have noticed that truckers (at least in my experience) are courteous and protective of motorcyclist. I feel a kindrad with them.....cage drivers give truckers and motrcylists lots of grief...ie cutting us off....etc..

Nice gesture by many truckers....thanks for sharing netnorske.
