question/advice

Well, unfortunately, I laid my bike on its side while making a tight turn in a parking garage. Aside from bruising my ego it appears that there was no real damage to myself or the bike. However, when I got the bike back upright it started right up, but it is it is now idling quite a bit higher than normal. Is there something from the tip over that is causing this? What should be my next step to fix it? I want to thank you in advance for any help.

There is a auto fuel shut off that doesnt go back on till its upright for a minute or so. That could make for a harder start up and maybe rough idle. But I havent heard of one idling higher for long time.

I dropped my 2008 on its left side while parking. When it was upright again it fired up with no idle problem at all. Can't understand what would cause it to continue running high at idle.

If the bike continuous to idle high, check to see that the throttle and cables didn't get damaged in any way. If everything appears to be good and the throttle works freely and returns all the way, turn the idle knob down a bit.

Check for any moved throttle cables, re-arrainged brakemaster, out of place right side dog bowl (air filter looking cover if the bike is stock) I think I would pull that cover too, and look for oil spilled in it.

I understand you laid on the crash bars, but that bump on yer knee just might be from wacking that dog bolw harder than you think.

Sometimes in a panic folks will start a downed bike up a bit too soon in time, before oil can drin out of places oil shouldn't be, and this can cause a temp problem.

Any time a Nomad goes down it is best to wait a few minutes and turn the key switch OFF, before attempting a start.

This can prevent a few things from tellin lies to the ECU.

With the dog bowl cover off look at the throttle plates. Open them, close them, look at the linkage behind the backing plate, and see if the linkage hits the stops. You will need to open and close the throttle plates with the hand grip throttle roller for this too.

If you find a lot of oil, say so here, and if you find a lot of oil, at 6:00 locate a small rubber tubing, crossing all the way to the other side of the bike. Locate that over there, and pull the flat bladed plug out. Have a rag handy to collect the dripping oil.

I would avoid making any adjustments for now. Do not turn the black knob air screw, or anything else for now.

It may be you did pick up oil, and it is breathing thru the intake, which in certain cases like this, can increase compression, both by taking up space, and by sealing the comp rings more than normal.

Also check that the fast idle knob (sometimes called the "choke") on the left above the horn didn't inadvertently get moved out. That will raise the idle.

thanks to everyone....I pulled the air cleaner off of the right side to check as Mac had suggested and found that I had knocked one of the caps off that I had put on the vacuum ports when iI removed the cold idle solenoids. I put it back on and seems to ahve put things back on track. Thanks again for the advice.
