oil filter stud ?

On my 08 Nomad it is very difficult to get the oil filter to thread on to the hollow threaded mounting stud. Took me almost 40 minutes yesterday.

I changed oil on a friends 07 Nomad yesterday and no problem getting the filter to start threading on his.

Question, is it possible to replace the hollow threaded stud??

Thanks,

Bob

If you go to cheapcycleparts.com and look at the crankcase parts view for your model, you will see that the pipe is available separately and it looks like it would just screw in/out.

I wonder... never once have I had to replace one, not ever. I never heard of one coming loose either, so a guess is these are locktited in hard at the factory, and getting one out just might open a real can of worms. I don't just mean kawii, I mean everything there is just about.

How many times have you changed the oil on this bike ? Maybe the thread in the oil filter was bad ?

This was my third oil change. I tried 3 different filters all were the same. I tried the filers on my friends Nomad after i changed my oil and they screwed on his fine.

I'm thinking there is a burr on the end of it. Next time I plan on taking a piece of emery paper and smoothing up the edge a little.

It sounds like a bad thread, you should be able to run a die on it and refresh the threads, so it works smoothly again.

I think your right, I will run a die on it next time, then deburr the outer edge and run the die off. Hopefully that will fix it.

I don't really want to try and remove it from the engine case; could open up a whole can of worms............
