Ain't Technology Grand?!

Hubby and I belong to our local SCRC chapter and ride as often as we can with them. This term, Chaz was elected as the Senior Road Captain. He has taken a class in the past and become certified and even received his cute little Road Captain patch for his vest!

Well, we used to talk between us with the Scala II system in our helmets. When he became Road Captain, he had to buy a CB system to communicate with the Tail Gunner, or Road Captain (if he wasn't leading the ride) That KILLED our Scala system and rides became less fun for me, not being able to talk to him. :'( He set up a second helmet with the mic and speaker system for his CB radio. He picked helmets to ride by which system he was going to use.

My genius hubby figured out a way to do BOTH!!!!! We did a ride this past Saturday and he was able to talk on the CB AND still talk to me on the Scala!!! WOO HOO!!!

He has the handheld portable CB unit, so what he did was plug his Ipod ear buds into his CB radio. Inside his helmet, he wore the ear bud on one side. The other side he kept open to hear me on the Scala speaker (already installed in his helmet, of course). He used the microphone on his helmet for the Scala and picked up the CB radio and talked into it for that transmission! Seems complicated, I know, but it solved all our problems!!!!! I was a happy rider Saturday, being able to chat with Chaz!!!

Glad he was able to figure out a way that he could still communicate with you.

Please ask Chaz how the wind noise was with the hand held mic on the CB and how was the range.
Thanks for your time

Sonny, hello and thank you for asking about the CB. I have the Midland Portable CB unit. I bought all of the accessories to include the helmet set up. I also bought the external power source to plug into my power point. This also gave me the antenna option. I have a 4 foot tunable Fire Stick antenna mounted off of the back side of my bike. This allows me to have a good range. The guys I was talking to said I sounded clear but had a little bit of noise in the back ground. I am guessing that this was due to a little bit of wind. But otherwise it worked out great as you can read from my darling wife. If she's happy i'm happy.

+1 on technology! ;) I think it's very cool that you- wife & hubby- both ride and together! My wife is too practical (i call her a kill-joy), she won't ride with me till my girls are out of college... they are 12 & 8 years old! It's just me and the Lord

Thanks Chaz, they used to make a noise cancelling mic, I used one in a cabover years ago, that would cut down wind noise for drivers who ran with the window down, or like me
had old raggedy trucks. I wonder if that would
help and could it even be attached to your radio.
Thanks for your time

Spazz, I have another question on the portable cb, did you try it with the little rubber antena before putting on the firestick and what was your range? Also, which headset did you use? i have researched it a little and know of two that are available and costly. I have the j&m on my bike and wanna try to hook up my SO with a portable. thanks, chuck
