Clutch slipping

Hi all,
As I have told you before I am not a mechanic so pardon my ignorance.

I was riding on the highway today when a problem came up with my 02. I was cruising at about 70 started going up along not too steep hill, when I noticed the Nomad could not maintain speed. When I twisted the throttle it just rev'd. As the ride continued I realized that the same would happen whenever I exceeded 3500 rpm. I am thinking the clutch is slipping. Does that sound right to you guys?

If more info is needed let me know

Clutch is definitely slipping, time to change the spring. Get a Barnett spring.

Its not a huge job to replace the clutch spring, sounds like yours is slipping pretty good.

The link below gives very good detailed instructions on how to replace your spring.

Thanks to all.

So the clutch spring is a common problem?

I was already pricing out clutch kits.

Yes, your clutches are most likely fine. I just put the barnett spring(mt-25) in mine a week and a half ago. Love it.

All you will need is either a Meanstreak or Barnett spring, and a sidecover gasket. Judges washers are optional but I added them when I did mine and really liked the positive feel over the stock setup.

Thanks again I ordered the parts this morning.

Looks pretty straight forward, and my brother in-law has agreed to assist, to ensure I don't mess anything up. His mechanical skills far exceed mine

Thanks for everyones input, ended up going with the MS spring. I did the work on Saturday and did the tensioners at the same time. Feels like a new bike.

For anyone considering these jobs, I say go for it. I am not a mechanic by any means and I had no problems, thanks to gadget's instructions.
