eyewear

I think I found the eyewear that solves all my riding needs. My job requires that we wear hard hat and safety glasses when loading our delivery truck. Also, I have needed reading glasses more and more and while I am driving I have them constantly on the end of my nose so that I can read delivery orders and the handheld computer that is mounted in my cab. Finally, I was delivering heating oil to a welding supply business and when I brought in the delivery invoice I asked the guy that ran the place if they had safety glasses with the built-in diopter. I orderded a pair and they worked great. I also got two pair of tinted safety glasses with the diopter. I wear them all the time and if I need to read anything or look at something small I hold it down lower where the diopter is. Now when I ride my bike I put on a pair and the diopter is there if I need it and my eyes get added impact protection.

LOL, that's just what they call basic reading glasses like you buy at KMart; (i.e. 1.50, 1.75, 2.00 etc) different magnification levels. They're not prescription.

OK, I know I'll sound like Mr. Peabody again, but I've worn glasses since I was 6, so I know this.

Diopter is a unit of measurement of the magnification power. Engines are rated by horsepower and lenses are rated by diopter.

Nowadays I wear progressive lenses which have one magnification at the top and another at the bottom, and the power varies in the middle. the curves are specially computer generated. This is what has replaced bifocals, which date back to Ben Franklin.

They are shatterproof polycarbonate, and will qualify as safety glasses if you put them in frames with side shields. I could go on, and on, til you all fall asleep, but I'll be merciful and stop there.

I've got a pair in my SUV, but I'll need my reading glasses to tell you the name on them. And my eyesight was perfect until about 5 years ago. Now I can't read crap without them.

I know what you guys mean now, Until about eight years ago my eyes where good. Now I cant see anything up close, and have pairs of reading glasses all over the house. I break or lose a pair about every 2 weeks on average. Sometimes I find them on sale for a buck or two and will get 10 pair to keep me going for a while. Also I wear safety glasses when I ride the bike, I have clear for nightime and tinted for daytime, and find they really help to keep my eyes from watering up .

Exactly my problem. Now with my new safety glasses I just tilt my head back and I can see if my petc0ck is "ON" or "OFF". I can use my cellphone. I can see my GPS, and I can read a map. Ah, life is back to being good.
