7500 mile checkup
I haven't hit that water mark yet, but I would suggest a look at MOM.

The recommendations are in the small owners manual that comes with the bike.

7500 mile checkup
As luck would have it, my bike was at the dealer today for its 7500 mile service. They changed the oil and filter, air filter, plugs, final drive oil and checked all fluids. Total: $195.72, but I paid $0 since it's covered under my prepaid service plan. It's nice to have her back in the garage.

7500 mile checkup
I'm really suprised the dealer would go the extra mile and change the final drive oil since the maintenance schedule doesn't call for it.

7500 mile checkup
Hmmm...thanks for posting that CJ.... I just turned 7200 on mine this morning, so I was interested in what all they did. From what I can tell... I can do all that myself and save $$$!! I highly doubt my shop will be able to get such a quick turn around anyway since it's almost season here and everybody is bringing their bikes in. I'll stop by on the way home and check though....

7500 mile checkup
I called them on Tuesday and made an appointment to drop the bike off Wednesday evening and pick it up Thursday evening. I gave them all day Thursday to get it done.
I had 7227 miles on the bike when I dropped it off.

7500 mile checkup
For those who opt for it, some of the great things about the prepaid service plan are; about $100.00 per service, as opposed to some more expensive ones I've seen listed here, and (at least at my dealer) I get same-day service. My dealer is an hour away. I can leave at 8:a.m., arrive at their 9:a.m. opening time, drink them out of coffee, watch TV in the lounge, visit with the folks in the shop, read the paper, walk across the highway and harass the guys at the Harley shop, and I'm on my way back home before very long. Can't beat it! :^)
Also get in two nice rides, to boot! |

Unfortunately, my dealer's hours aren't very compatible with my work schedule and it's a little bit out of the way for me. It was the dealer closest to where I live, I just live on the edge of civilization. If I wanted to, I could take a day off and ride to the dealer and they'd work on the bike while I wait, and I've done that in the past. I just didn't want to burn a day off this week. The place is crazy on Saturdays, so that's not an option. They seem to take real good care of me, though and I appreciate that.

I thought the driveshaft splines and swingarm pivot need lube at 7500. (That would be the expensive part.) Maybe the 1600 has a different schedule than the 1500.
