Water pipe O-Ring replacement question

Hi, my brother has a 2000 Carbed nomad 1500. He needs to replace the O-Ring underneath the water pipe and hose at the top of the rear cylinder. Can anyone tell me if it screws out or is it pressed in. Thank you, Jody

Water pipe O-Ring replacement question

I think he will have to replace both o rings.. If this is like injected bikes the manifold is a "Y" and the whole thing must be lifted off.

The idea is to lower the coolant level below the level of the manifold, or to drain the entire system and change out the coolant complete, maybe flush.

The o ring seats in a groove, and is easily plucked out. Clean all sufarces and inspect tem for flaws (corrosion)

Water pipe O-Ring replacement question

Like Mac said, if your going to replace one, go ahead and do both. I thing the "O" rings from Kawi are about 80 cents each. But to your question, "Can anyone tell me if it screws out or is it pressed in." If it's like on the FI models, it just pushes in, and is held in place by one screw going through a bracket on the pipe. Remove the coolant line, then the mounting screw, then pull/twist the pipe from the head. Make sure all is clean before reassembly. Also, like Mac said, now's a good time to change your coolant, it should be done every 2 years.
