switched power under seat?

I am going to wire another power outlet and plan to put it under a side cover. i know there is an accessory circuit under the seat but...

Is it switched power and if not where do I get a switched wire to attach to my relay?

The "accessory circuit" under the seat is just like the one in the headlight bucket.. It's always hot. There are a few places under the seat to get "switched power" to trigger a relay, and I would suggest using the rear running light circuit.

rock on thanks. I was going to install the Kury triple whammy too. SOunds like it would be easiest to do those at the same time then.

OP, be certain to pick up the running light for the power outlet "upstream" of the triple whammy. Downstream will fry it!

cajunrider I am not sure what you mean. Are you saying tap in for the power outlet closer to the power source than from where the whammy plugs in?

It is a device from Kuryakyn that turns the rear signals into Run/Tail/Turn lights and comes with the replacement red lenses. It is a plug-n-play device.

OP, what I'm trying to say is don't splice in to the running light between the whammy and the tail lights. You can splice into the running light between the whammy and where it plugs into the existing connection.....not between the whammy and the plug connection for your tail lights on the Nomad. The whammy module won't be able to take the load without burning it up. It didn't happen to me but I was told not to by a Kuryakyn rep over the phone. By splicing into the whammy wiring upstream of the module, you don't have to splice into your MC wiring if you don't want to. If you ever decide to take the whammy out, you will then have to splice into the existing Kaw running light wire.

Thanks for answering what a whammy is. That sounds like something I could use.

Thanks Cajun. I figured that is what you meant. I got a list of stuff I want before I head to the rally next year and this is one of my top items.

Here is a shot of the top of the left side cover. In there are 1 relay for the Stebel Horn, a switched power buss for accessories like power ports, and an unswitched buss for LED lights.

There is still room for more connections as the relay for the lightbar is in the headlight can. 1 connection on the buss is for the front powerport.

Busy is relative, I build computers as a hobby so I am used to routing wires and such. Actually both power buss units are attached with industrial velcro so they are very easy to pull out for fuses and wiring. The buss to the left is powered by the relay next to it. I have just finished a plastic shelf that will go on top so I will have room for the TFI too.

The left side cover is about the best place to headquarter power sources particularly if you want to have devices switched on with the ignition without burdening critical circuits like the headlights. The side cover is very close for running a 20 amp line to the power buss realy and the red running light wire under the seat too is handy to tap for switching the relay when the key is turned.
