Grin Great news for me!

I just got done with my project for the day, of installing a JOG in my 99 Nomad. Well, I bought the gear, (very nice workmanship) and gasket, and started the tear down today. Once I got inside, I found a factory SOG installed!! I guess one of the two previous owners must have had it done, but I was very pleased with the find! I can now ride with confidence! Now, question for you guys. I have about 24,000miles on the bike, anything else i should be concerned with? I understand the cam chain tensioners will be due an upgrade in 15-20k more miles, from what I read. What do you guys say?

I would look to do the cam chain tensioners at about 30,000 miles. Check all of your cooling hoses and clamps making sure of no leaks...then ride it like ya stole' it......

It doesn't get any better than that, too bad you didn't check the gear beforehand.

Hey, it was worth the cost of the gear to find it. I will be putting it up for sale soon though. I plan to call Judge and see if they will give me anything for it on return. If not, I will try to sell it for a great price!

Good for you. I understand that for a while Kawasaki was replacing them at their cost.
Other things to do, lets see. lube the kick stand pivot bolt often, it tends to wear the hole oblong and the you have problems with the return spring staying on. The swing arm should be removed and the pivot shaft lubed from time to time. A good time to do that is when you plan a tire change. Also at that same time while everything is apart, lube the drive shaft spline.
Can't think of much else but enjoy.

The 99 Nomads came with plastic oil gear (pog) They all fail eventually.
You can replace it with a factory steel oil gear (sog) or a aftermarket Judges oil gear (jog)

24000 miles on a 13 yr old bike! You may want to check your clutch and brake fluid - then go ride! That bike has some catching up to do!

Wat the others said, and the coolant should be changed every couple of years too. Also, on older bikes, I would look into replacing all the hoses and vacuum lines. Mine is an '05 and I just replaced all my vacuum lines and hoses on the throttle-body, they were starting to get hard.
