Tools for Breakdowns

While reading about the saga of Jared Gant's breakdown, I noticed some members said they always take some tools with them.

I carry some tools and a flat repair kit, but I wonder if anyone keeps a good list of tools they might need on the road someday. If you do, would you post that list?

Lots of riders would appreciate it, I am sure. BnG

P.S. Let's hope Jared has gotten some help!

I don't carry a lot more than the standard tool kit. I'll add vice grips, a couple of screwdrivers and a couple extra wrenches, as well as a tire plug kit.
So far I havn't needed any of it.

That's similar to what I take all the time. But "standard tool kit" isn't much in my kit, so I'm looking forward to hearing what other's have.

I have a couple of crescent wrenches, vice grips, screw drivers, one of those weird looking end wrench type of things that adjust to many bolt sizes. A few box wrenches, and a tire plug kit. I also take a small mountain bike pump.

It all fits in a small canvas bag. The bag is bigger than it needs to be, so as I ride it flattens out and sits tight to the bottom of the bag all spread out.

For those that don't take a whole set of end wrenches, what is the most popular sizes to take? It would be good to know which ones you need, and which ones to leave at home.

I carry a cruztools RoadTech M3 kit, along with a few odds and ends I have added. That kit comes in pretty handy and fits nicely in the saddlebags. Let's me keep my shop tools in the shop and these are tough little tools.

I carry a socket set and wrench set that will fit the nuts and bolts on my Nomad. In addition to that, several screwdrivers, vice grips, pliers, a test light, mag light w/extra batteries, a couple of rags and a bag of zip ties. Pretty much have everything I need to repair the bike and even take the tank off if need be. It all fits into two small, zippered (microphone) bags. Tucks into my trunk beside the aux fuel tank.

I carry the same tool kit, plus a little box of spare fuses/bulbs, a small Slime air compressor, a tire plug kit, and a small first aid kit. Oh, yeah - I also carry the AMA roadside emergency service.

Here's a list of the extra stuff I carry. A lot of it I keep in a nice little zipper pouch and is handy to have for both my bike and my snowmobile so it gets transfered back and forth depending on the season. So far I have never needed any of it on the bike.
Tire plugs, gauge and 12V compressor
First aid kit
Flash light
Electrical tape, spool of brass wire, 3ft of electrical wire
Leather-man multi tool
lighter
Extra pliers, a few screwdrivers and a couple of extra box wrenches
1/4in and 1/2in drive reg and deep sockets, small power bar and a small combination 1/4in 1/2 in drive ratchet

I have been thinking of making up a set of booster cables for the bike as well.

In addition to what has been mentioned a crescent wrench and a leatherman tool. You can never have too many screw drivers, and definitely a pair of wire pliers. Also some beef jerky and stuff like that in case you are stranded for a while.

Okay... Okay... Okay... that is far too "unspecific" of information for anyone to be able to put together a comprehensive "tool-kit" together.

Guys........ all that has been mentioned is nothing more than "general" descriptions of tools -- no SPECIFIC SIZES OR TYPES OF TOOLS HAVE BEEN MENTIONED.

I think it would be great to finally have SPECIFIC LIST of tools (sizes included); fuses (specific types); and etc that work for the Nomad -- and that would be a great "emergency-kit" to have when out on the road.

SO.... PLEASE GUYS... BE SPECIFIC IN YOUR TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES THAT YOU CARRY SO A LIST CAN BE PUT TOGETHER. ;) ;)

There's not a whole lot your going to fix on the side of the road.
If it breaks that bad I'll need parts anyway.
All carry in addition to the stock tool pouch is a bell multi tool and a flat kit, tire gauge and pump along with a spare bulbs for all the lights and some fuses and first aid kit.

DUCT TAPE

and a good knife.. uhm, sorry gl..... gray utility knife with a brass slide button to operate the retractable razor blade.
Wouldn't hurt to carry a pocket knife with a stronger blade also.
Audio is spot on with zip ties. fixes broken riser for sure. strapped the bar to the triple tree. assorted sizes.

Nomad tool kit has wrenches to fit most applications to effect a simple roadside fix. I'll have to dig it out and knock the dust off of it to list the sizes.
