winter; the continuing saga

At present snow is falling outside. They are forecasting 6-12 inches. Thank you very much TopCat as it is coming from your direction. In the course of my job as an oil delivery driver I have taken a few pictures of the driveways that I encounter. Here are two. The first one is a steep climb on which I didn't quite make it to the top as evidenced by the shiny tire marks of my truck. The driveway had a turn near the bottom and the trick to sliding backwards is to let the wheels roll so you can control the path of the truck and not slide off into the deep. The problem with that is you need to apply braking so that you don't slide across the road at the bottom and go down the next hill. Fortunately, it all worked out.

This next picture is what happens when you get snowstorm after snowstorm and the homeowner gets tired of clearing off his driveway all the time. Eventually, when snowfall is 6 inches or less he just drives over it, or he has no more room to plow it. If you look closely you can see my dual tire marks are wider than the driveway and getting my truck in there is like a St Bernard trying to mate with a Chihuahah.

I guess I had better go out and clean off my SUV and go to breakfast before the snow starts coming down heavier. Have fun all of you down south and ride one for me.

I did a travel assignment in Vermont a couple of years ago. Arrived last of March....left Sept. I loved the people and the facility......I was at St. Albans, VT. They wanted me to stay longer......I asked them about the winters.....I told them.....I love you guys but heading back south for the winter! They said they honestly don't blame me. Say they get tired of the snow long before it's ever gone. :-/

Not doing travel nursing at the present....but may do again in the future....would definately put VT on my list of places to come work again (during spring/summer). Beautiful country and some very nice folks! Thinks Spring!

Don't know if this helps or not but we had one of those terrible winters here last year and the bike was in the garage for the longest time I could remember, BUT, today its going to be 70F and Colorado going riding, unless AudioGR is still snowed in

We are supposed to hit mid 60s here n eastern Nebraska today. It's a one day thing, but hey it counts. The cardiologist just told me yesterday I am cleared to ride. What timing.

We don't have as much snow as you guys do over there but it has been extremely cold here in northwestern minnesota for us this winter. We probably won't ride till the midddle of april give or take. I do have my bike in a heated area so I can go out and look at it without freezing at least, ha!

I'm with you guys and all of this white crap outside!!!!!! I don't know about your area racinchef but here in Wisconsin we have about 10 inches of snow but only about 1/2 an inch of it is snow. The rest of it is ICE!!!!!!!! This is soooooo awful, it will probably take until June for all of this ice to melt!!!!!!! It is killing our cars when the plows don't come through, i have a really big speed bump at the end of my driveway that is all ice. When the ice does start to melt it has nowhere to go because all of the drainage ditches are covered with very thick ice so when it gets colder at night it just freezes again and again and again. Yeah for me!!!!!!

Oh, and one more thing, the state of Wisconsin ran out of salt along time ago. They had to borrow salt from another state nearby. But they are only using it on the main roads. So we have a heck of a time getting to the main roads.

Just got back from going out for breakfast. Snow is tapered off and now looks like snow showers all day. Here is what it looks like where I live.

The White River in Sharon, VT

Royalton Hill Road, Royalton, VT

This is actually the driveway to a home that I delivered to last year and it looks exactly as it did then. I took a chance and drove in as opposed to backing in. Got lucky and had just enough room to get turned around to drive back out.

By all means come up in the winter. There is nothing like being out in a snowstorm whether you are walking, skiing, snowmobiling or just riding in a car. However, do it with someone that knows where they are going and what they are doing.

I know what you mean. Every morning there is fresh ice where I walk pulling my hose around peoples' houses and inevitably I go slip-sliding away. I had ice-walkers, but they get pulled off my boots walking through the crusty snow and now I have none. I think when I am able to I will take February off and trailer my bike to Texas and spend a few weeks riding. I will definitely get a a snowmobile in the meantime.
