1st memories of motorcycles as a kid?

OK, I'm bored waiting for the bad dinner to come, or my wife to come by the hospital, so I'm thinking up conversations topics. :)

My first memories of bikes were at about 3 years old and some cousins that were probably about 20 had motorcycles. Even at 3, I knew that I was looking at something very cool compared to cars. Only saw them that one time, they lived out of state and we were visiting.

At 4-5 years old I saw a funeral procession on TV and there were police bikes leading the procession. I thought they were the coolest thing ever.

That was my introduction to motorcycles. How did you first become aware of motorcycles.

1st memories of motorcycles as a kid?

First time they caught my eye I was probably about 7 yrs old. Neighbor who lived over the hill from us (rural area) rode a stretched and raked chopper. This was probably 1966. Everytime he rode by I thought it was the coolest thing I ever saw. Knew from then on that I would ride someday. Folks thought I was crazy. No one in my family rode, I was the first. Even now it's just me and my younger brother who ride.

1st memories of motorcycles as a kid?

Back in the late 40's my grandfather had a buddy that owned a Harley. Every weekend he would come to visit and they would go for a ride. I couldn't wait to get big enough to get on the back of that awesome machine. The day finally came and I've been on one ever since. Not a Harley.

1st memories of motorcycles as a kid?

I'm not sure how old I was (probably about 6), but a friend of my brother had a bike. He would come over and I would just about drool over wanting to ride. I had a football helmet from a cousin so we put that on my head and off he took me around the block. That was all she wrote. I would pretend my bicycle was a motorcycle. I would set up a small wooden ramp and jump it with my bike. I had ridden at a cousin's house and a few different friend's bikes through the years. It wasn't until 2000 or so that I bought my first bike. I have had my motorcycle endorsement on my license since way before that.

Another childhood memory is seeing a poster at an older kids house that was popular in the early 70's of the big guy on a chopper flipping the bird towards the camera.

Couldn't understand why he was flipping me off, but I liked the poster.

1st memories of motorcycles as a kid?

My mom's brother was an old school biker and he lived with my grandma in Great Falls, Mt. As far back as I can remember he always had a shiny Electra Glide. Man, what a bike! More chrome than a room full of bald men. He was pretty cool and would haul me around on the bike when we'd go up there each summer for a visit. After dinner, he'd take me to the cafe to meet up with his buddies for pie and coffee. I am surprised my mom even let me get near that bike, In his later years he switched to Gold Wings, but I'll never ever forget riding through the wheat fields of the northern Montana plains on the back of that bike. I'm pretty sure that's what hooked me on riding and I'm positive that's why I ride a big cruiser today.

I first rode in '66, a friends TR-6 Triumph. Can't really remember the first time I actually thought about having a bike. Must have been in the early 60s.

1st memories of motorcycles as a kid?

Here's another childhood memory, anyone remember this?

When I was in probably 4th grade (1974) there was a movie on TV, probably trying to capitalize on Easy Riders, about two guy going on a long trip on motorcycles (as a 4th grader and that long ago don't remember any plot deeper than that). The movie ended with them riding their motorcycles off a cliff either into the ocean or onto the beach.

At that age it was the first time I saw something where somebody was killing themselves and I was baffled and disturbed by why they would do that.
Saw Solient Green at about the same time. Left it's mark too.

Any one remember that movie and what the name was? (TV movie)
