Book Value

I made the mistake of looking up the book value on my 2007 Nomad. Ouch. Average retail 7960 and low retail 6000. It's not even three years old.

I hear you Ponch...

The real pain becomes a reality when you trade it in. Better off to sell it outright.

Book Value

Book values are not real accurate for motorcycles in determining market value like they are for cars.

I have sold 3 different motorcycles and gotten substanially more that top "book" retail value. Just sold a small Honda XR100 that booked for $650 top retail for $950. Sold a Honda Shadow for about $1500 over book several years back. And sold a Yamaha for much more than book value.

Yea it is quite a shocker on how much they depreciate. Looked a HD before I bought mine but Nomad was a lot better bang for the buck and thousands cheaper. Makes you wonder if I should of bought a HD. Don't get me wrong love the Nomad and is cheap to maintain vs HD, guess I will have to ride the wheels off of it to get my monies worth.

Current values on all bikes have dropped over the past year due to the economy. I've seen numerous HD's that would have sold for $15K 18 months ago going for $10-$11K. When I bought my 2006 Noamd last fall I was able to sell my 1999 Nomad for $5500, (well over book value) and now I see them going for high $3K's. Best to get the one you really want and ride it forever.

I hear ya man. But I take great comfort in knowing that I didn't buy my Nomad as an investment...at least not in the monetary sense! Ride and enjoy brother! :)

You gave a hell of a deal on yours, I remember wishing that you offered it to me, even though I have one. :)

I don't think so....I was asking my wife the other day if she would ever want to get one again, maybe when we're older and ride across the country or something and she was thinking more along the lines of a convertable sports car, she still has the sore butt too fresh in her memory. When I sold mine we agreed I could always rent one if I got the itch and I haven't even done that yet, I guess I don't really miss it all that much.

I wouldn't buy a HD. They are ergonomically incorrect for me at any price.

I was thinking of something like this: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/pre...sa-offside.jpg
The local Victory/Yamaha dealer just took on BMW, so I said to myself, I wonder what the Nomad is worth...Ok, I got the wrong answer.
